Why do you need a College degree for a regular Customer Service job?

Question by burgermeister: Why do you need a College degree for a regular Customer Service job?
I saw a posting for a Customer Service Rep. position basically handling incoming calls in a call center. It says College degree preferred, I find that odd for just a CSR position and want to know why you need a degree for that? Oh yah, it’s for a psychic company…go figure?

A psychic company…then I think they are looking for the desperate rather than the qualified.

On the other hand there may be a good chance of promotion, so they want someone to start in a CSR role and move up into a management role quickly.

The posting doesn’t say you need a College degree, it says it would be preferred. If you have some college graduates applying for the job, it probably would give them a leg up over high school graduates or dropouts. It’s all about getting the most for your payroll dollar. I’d be more inclined to want a college graduated vs the HS if I were doing the hiring.
