What do you think about selling products for companies as an independent contractor?

Question by Chick: What do you think about selling products for companies as an independent contractor?
I recently posted a ? about Avon. But I want to know about all of them! I’ve got to get some extra cash flow, so I’m researching. Right now I’m considering anything EXCEPT for companies that sell sex products. I’m a single mom of a 4 year old & I don’t feel its approriate to have those products in my home. You guys know how 4 year olds can be… INTO EVERYTHING! I work full time, go to school 9 credit hours per semester, & I’m a single parent. So I think this may be better for me than say getting a 2nd conventional part time job.

1) Have you ever sold: Avon, Mary Kay, Partylite, Pampered Chef, Tupperware, or a company not listed here?

2) How long did you stay w/the company? If you are still w/them, for how long?

3) How much did or do you make an average? What’s the profit percentage?

4) How hard was it? How much time did/do you have to invest?

5) What’s the start up cost?

I know I’m asking a lot of questions, but like I said, I’m researching. Thank you in advance!

Answer by Avon Leader
1. I have sold Avon, Mary Kay & Melaleuca. I am currently with Avon.

2. I am with Avon now for 10 years.

3. I expect to earn somewhere around $ 40,000 for this year. I am in Avon’s Leadership program and that is where I make the majority of my money.

4. With any of these businesses you must invest some time and money. The reason why I believe most people quit is because they don’t understand the nature of the business. But, consistency and committment really do pay off in the long run. If you want to be a business owner without the high overhead direct sales is a great way to go.

5. The start up is only $ 10 and new reps earn 50% (with a minimum $ 50 order) in their first 4 campaigns on all our core brochure items (which makes up most of our brochure — it includes our cosmetics, skincare, fragrances, bath & body, most of our jewelry and some of our giftables) and 20% on our fixed earnings items. What’s great is there is no stocking involved and our brochures and samples are really reasonably priced.

    1) I have only sold Pampered Chef.

    2) I have been a consultant for 3 years now.

    3) The average show will make you $ 100 a night. You start at 20% commission on your sales, but the percentage increases as your sales increase. You can also increase your commission by adding members to your team.

I do work full-time also, so I usually do 1 or 2 shows a week. The direct sales industry is flexible, so you can do as many or as few as you want each month.

    4) It’s not hard to get started with the Pampered Chef. We have many training tools, including an online training center, with courses geared toward new consultants. Doing the actual show presentations isn’t hard either. Our recipes are easy to put together and have step by step instructions to tell you which tools to use. The average time investment for each show is 4-5 hours, including host coaching, show presentation and wrap up of the show.

    5) Our starter kit is $ 155, but you can earn $ 40 off by hosting your own show first. The starter kit has everything to get you going, including business supplies.

I have sold Avon and currently I am selling PartyLite

I did Avon for about 1year and in my area ALMOST EVERYONE sells Avon so I really didn’t see much of a profit. You really have to work hard to try to become a Leader and Motivate the people under you to have a certain amount of sales so that you can make money off of them.
PartyLite to me is SOOOOO MUCH better!!!! You go to peoples houses and PARTY!!! It can’t get any better. You meet alott of new people and you always make the same percentage no matter how much you make. I really don’t think it is much work at all. The merchandise doesn’t even go to your house so you don’t even have to worry about distributing it to the customers. It goes directly to the hostess house. Plus they have so many GREAT Hostess specials that you won’t have a problom booking your Parties.

On average I would make about 80.00 every 2 weeks selling Avon. Avon Percentage Varies on how much you sell.
On average I make about 100.00 a party in Partylite I usually do 2 Parties a week( I only work Friday nights and Saturdays). So I average 400.00 every 2 weeks with Partylite. I LOVE IT!!!!! You make 25% of your sales so for example if you have 10 girls at a Party and every girl buys 40.00 worth of merchandise that is 400.00 so that gives you a 100.00 profit. Plus if you sell 2,000 in a month (which if you do 2 shows a week at 400.00 a show you should have no problom getting 2,000) you bonus and they give you a check of 7% of your sales So if you have 8 shows at 400.00 a show that is 3200 so PartyLite sends you a check for 224.00!!!!!

For Avon I feel like it was a Little more time consuming because you had more deadlines to meet and the merchandise got delivered to you so then you had to go around looking for people to pay you and give them there order.
PartyLite I think is much easier and Less time consuming you could even just do 1 Party a week it’s just so much easier.

For Avon you have to pay 10.00 to start up
With PartyLite you don’t have to pay NOTHING!!!!!!! All you have to do is Have a starter show of 350.00 and they give you your Starter KIT. PLUS anything over the 350.00 you get dollar for dollar on merchandise of your Choice!!!

If you have any questions Please contact me I will be more than happy to answer them. If you want to become a ParttLite Consultant I can make it HAPPEN!!!!!
