How do I get a waitress job without actual experience?

Question by Lily: How do I get a waitress job without actual experience?
I just lost my job and I am looking for jobs as a waitress. I think it will be a great opportunity for me and even though its hard work I want to work as a server. I have almost two years of customer service experience and I am good with people so is there still a chance someone would like to hire me as a waitress even though I don’t have food service experience? If so what tips would you give me to get into this type of business.

Best answer:

Answer by Lindsey B
With your work experience qualifications you have a very good chance of becoming a server. Also, if they know that you are fully aware of the hard work that lies ahead in this line of work then you have a high advantage over other applicants. Remember to tell the manager every single thing that makes you qualified for the person (energetic, work experience, friendly, customer-oriented, likes to work with people, etc.) and make sure to SMILE and dress PROFESSIONALLY (no jeans, t-shirts or sneakers) when you apply and get an interview.

Afterward before they hire you, you may have to visit your local health department and get your Food Handler’s Card in order to be able to serve food. It can cost up to $ 7.00 for the test to get the card (basically studying a pamphlet of food info and taking a multiple-choice test) and then you’ll be good to go.

Good luck! I hope you snag a waitressing job!

How difficult would it be to work a entry level administration job, without any experience?

Question by College Questions: How difficult would it be to work a entry level administration job, without any experience?
I was thinking about applying for this administration entry level job, which includes answering phones, assisting clients, filing, mail, light bookkeeping and other administrative tasks. I have never work a office job, but I do have customer service and supervising experience. Do you think they would consider me to be a candidate? If so, how hard will it be for me? Or will it be an idealistic, easy job?
Thanks for your answers!

I can tell from the way you framed your question, that you have the most important skills, which are reading and writing well. I’m sure you learned many of the other skills you will need in your past jobs.
While in customer service, you learned how to answer phones and assist clients and you must be a responsible person to have supervisory experience.
If you can keep a checkbook, make deposits at the bank, and you pay your own bills on time, you can perform light bookkeeping with just a little instruction.
Sorting the mail is very similar to the same task at home, except at the office you will stamp it as received on a certain date and sort it according to who gets it.
Few people like filing, but it’s simple – just follow the system that’s already in place. And someone will show you the system after you get the job, so no worries there.
Go for it! If you like working with other people, if you are organized, and if you are easy to get along with, you will be successful at an administrative position.

I am currently working on my MBA, but I do not have any experience in business. The experience I have deals with customer service, and labor type jobs. I have never held a management position, and I was wondering if there is anything I can do to satisfy this lack of experience.

Q&A: How can you get action replay software to work without the disk?

Question by some_boy99: How can you get action replay software to work without the disk?
Well i bought the action replay from a store a while back and now ive lost the disk and gotten a new computer. I downloaded the software off of a website, but i cannot get it to find the driver software when i plug up the DS and action replay to the PC through a USB cable. Does anyone know how to fix this or how to get the driver software?

Best answer:

Answer by justnukeit5000
You probably got an outdated version of the software or something. Unfortunately Datel is criminally horrible in customer support, or making any software work at all. I do not know how that company can make such pitifully, mind-blowingly, horrible software and still be in business. Probably because they have no competition, but the could at least try to make a good product.

Ever worked in a call center without killing yourself? Please tell me your strength to sit there everyday.?

Question by ♠: Ever worked in a call center without killing yourself? Please tell me your strength to sit there everyday.?
I know that no one is absolutely thrilled to come into their call center job everyday, but honestly, I’ve only taken calls for one day and hate it. It’s depressing, I don’t want to sit on the phone for 12 hours adding rate plans and troubleshooting their phone in their desk in china. After a call, I feel like a zombie, and I’m starting to fall asleep in between calls. One minute, I’m staring at the cubicle wall, the next I’m getting woken up by “ding ding” in my headset and have to sluggishly pull through the next call. Plus my system is extremely slow but I’m not allow to tell the customer that, so I have to fill the dead air with small talk while the system takes its sweet ol time on my handling time. Just wanted to know, how you all do it, what keeps you going?

Best answer:

Answer by roberticvs
I had a job doing this for one month while I was going through college. I HATED IT. There are plenty of other things to do out there to earn a little money. Don’t make yourself crazy. Human beings didn’t evolve to sit at desks.

Advice: Quit and find a different job.

How can I improve my social skills without actually interacting with people?

Question by Splendidymus: How can I improve my social skills without actually interacting with people?
I don’t mean to sound like a smart-alec misanthrope, but I just don’t get a chance very often to deal with people. Part of the reason is that society seems to require payment for entry into social scenes, like gyms, bars… Even clubs cost me money because I have to drive to meetings, but I have no money to spare. I’ve had customer service jobs, but interactions in them are so brief and superficial. In case you’re wondering, I have no intention of going to a church–I hate religion.

Best answer:

Answer by tnr_lady
Go places where some modicum of manners is the norm, such as a museum or a play, and observe the interactions of others. Note them for future reference.

Q&A: Why do all companies use the phrase “the suit is without merit and we intend to vigorously defend against it”?

Question by noahlh: Why do all companies use the phrase “the suit is without merit and we intend to vigorously defend against it”?
It seems as if any time a company is sued, their PR or IR departments release a statement that includes the exact words above. Searching for the phrase “without merit vigorously defend” returns thousands of results, from different companies.

Is there a reason all companies use that specific phrase? Is there something about the words “without merit” and “vigorously defend” that gives them more rights in court or some other technical legal advantage? Or is it just a case of lawyers all being copycats of each other?

That is code that means we know we are guilty but will try to wear the other side down with years of legal maneuvers.

What kind of high paying job can I get without a degree?

Question by Emily Rugburn: What kind of high paying job can I get without a degree?
I didn’t finish highschool, and I’m a full time parent, but my son is starting school in the fall and I want to work. Are there any jobs that will hire a person without a degree, not including customer service jobs. I do not want to work at a store or restaurant.

Please do not say stripper…

Best answer:

Answer by Ginny Jin
Anyone self-employed has more control over their income and the hours they work. I suggest you go down that route.
Even if you run your own cleaning business (or something similar) which doesn’t require alot of training but has high income potential if you market yourself right.
Go and visit your local business enterprise office for more advice. You might even be able to get a grant to start-up.
