In order to finish my degree, should I take out a line of credit or work full time?

Question by Amaranth: In order to finish my degree, should I take out a line of credit or work full time?
If I continue in school full time, I will finish my Bachelor of Social Work degree in 1 year. However, I currently have a student loan debt of $ 43,000. My first option is to take a $ 10,000 line of credit and continue in school full time, finishing in 1 year. My second option is to work full time at a job that earns $ 23/hour, but it will take 2 years to finish my degree. The job I can take is not related to social work, but it is a government job at a call centre. Here in BC, the average income of a starting social worker is about $ 44,000 (for full time work; not sure if this income is for social workers with a BSW and/or MSW). What would you do?

Get the loan but get a part time job so that you can start paying down on it immediately.

I don’t like to be in one place for any extended period of time and would love to have a job that embraced and required this. I have a bachelors in criminal justice and about 4 years work experience in customer service and a little bit of IT support experience.

How can you tell which job is fake and which is real? Lot of time gets wasted applying for fake job listings?

Question by cricket: How can you tell which job is fake and which is real? Lot of time gets wasted applying for fake job listings?
My university professor said that many of the job listings in private and government sector are largely fake and that the recruiter or hiring manager will only hire his friend or relative for the job.

He said its already pre-decided who will get the job (the friend or relative) but they still have to list the job to meet the state, federal, or company guidelines. And the listing is only to satisfy these rules. In the end all applications are trashed and the pre-determined candidate walks through the process.

I personally know this is very true because lots of people have told me the same thing. This is one reason why its so hard to find a job nowadays. Because they are not hiring on merit. They are hiring on personal relations only.
The professor even goes further and says, “about 99 percent job listings on websites like monster and careerbuilder are fake or bogus. you will not get any job until you have at least phd”
He said he has decades of experience working within human resources of big companies and this is a common practice
This is pure discrimination. The government needs to look into this. Its one big reason the economy isn’t recovering.
I spend hours and hours applying, only to never hear back anything. And I have master’s degree in physics with 4.0 GPA. Time is money too

When a publicly listed company files for Chap 11 bankruptcy. How much time does it have to create an exit plan

Question by ThreeD2006: When a publicly listed company files for Chap 11 bankruptcy. How much time does it have to create an exit plan
When a public company files for Chap 11 bankruptcy, and its stock continues to trade. How much time does the law allows the company to come up with a bankruptcy plan? Where can I find the filings that the company sent to the court judge? What are the different legal steps and timeline, the company needs to go through before it can exit from chapter 11?

Best answer:

Answer by just_the_facts_ma’am
The time can vary depending on the complexity of the case. You can read more info by following the 1st link below.

To find the filings, you need to get them from the court that has jurisdiction. Some of those have the info on-line, others don’t.

If the case is large enough, there is often a case management company involved, who posts info on-line. One such company is in the 2nd link below

Calling All Cars: Crime v. Time / One Good Turn Deserves Another / Hang Me Please

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is the police department of the city of Los Angeles, California. The LAPD has been copiously fictionalized in numerous movies, novels and television shows throughout its history. The department has also been associated with a number of controversies, mainly concerned with racial animosity, police brutality and police corruption. The radio show Calling All Cars hired LAPD radio dispacher Jesse Rosenquist to be the voice of the dispatcher. Rosenquist was already famous because home radios could tune into early police radio frequencies. As the first police radio dispatcher presented to the public ear, his was the voice that actors went to when called upon for a radio dispatcher role. The iconic television series Dragnet, with LAPD Detective Joe Friday as the primary character, was the first major media representation of the department. Real LAPD operations inspired Jack Webb to create the series and close cooperation with department officers let him make it as realistic as possible, including authentic police equipment and sound recording on-site at the police station. Due to Dragnet’s popularity, LAPD Chief Parker “became, after J. Edgar Hoover, the most well known and respected law enforcement official in the nation”. In the 1960s, when the LAPD under Chief Thomas Reddin expanded its community relations division and began efforts to reach out to the African-American community, Dragnet followed suit with more emphasis on internal

I hate working w/ customers, not really into customer service.

Is there such a job where I can work “behind the scenes” so I don’t have to deal with people or very little of them?

How do I submit resumes to companies that may not be looking for employees at this time?

Question by rrichards2k3: How do I submit resumes to companies that may not be looking for employees at this time?
I am trying to find a job an I know of a few buildings that have various kinds of customer service, inbound and outbound telemarketing jobs. Should I have a cover letter for each one? Should I have copies of resumes with different objectives on each? Should I leave the resume with the receptionist or should I try to leave with an HR manager? I just want to take some initiative versus trying to look through the want ads.

Best answer:

Answer by pnk517
I applaud your efforts!! Most companies are always looking for quality employees to hire, and few of them actually advertise any positions.

First off, research the company on the internet. This will let you know what that particular company is looking for, and allow you to taylor your resume and cover letter to reflect that. I’m not saying to lie on your resume!!! Just taylor your accomplishments to match what the company is looking for.

You have a couple of options that you can do to get your resume seen.

As you mentioned, you can walk it down in person. Try to get the name of the HR person prior to going in. If you can schedule an appointment, or at the very least walk in with the person’s name, then you have a better chance.

The other is to go to the company website. Most major companies have a link that will allow you to submit your resume and any attachments (cover letter, letters of recommendation, etc).

Good Luck!!
