How do you communicate to an employee that they’re rude to customers, or coach them to be kinder?

Question by Ann: How do you communicate to an employee that they’re rude to customers, or coach them to be kinder?
I am a corporate skills-coach for customer service, so I don’t have the authority to “fire” people; and recommending letting people go is not something the supervisors over different offices will be readily open to. I mainly just want to do my job and help to correct the problem. Any ideas on how to confront this rep directly about sounding harsh/rude to customers, in a way that’s effective vs. damaging?
Everyone is getting coached, and everyone gets reviews. On first review I threw in a couple of neutral/nice things then said “The only thing of significance here was a note-to-self to remind reps about keeping things in perspective when asking for ID’s and phone numbers – comes off harsh sometimes.”

One tip would be to approach them and let them think that everyone will be coached on their customer service. People respond better to ‘negative’ feedback when they don’t feel they are being singled out.

Q&A: Job description has no company name or address. How to address them in cover letter?

Question by Jen: Job description has no company name or address. How to address them in cover letter?
Found a job on Craiglist that I am really interested in. But it simply does not list the company name or address or anything. It’s a Spa Receptionist at “High end Spa & Fitness Center in Downtown San Francisco”, and that’s all it says.
Is it right to email them and ask to whom I will be addressing?

Best answer:

Answer by Adnan Masood
This in case, I usually skip this part of the cover letter as there is really nothing for you to write. I’ll do my information at the top, the date, and then start with the “To whom it may concern.”

Good luck applying for the job!

If a website excludes men from getting a job with them, is that legal?

Question by scottlevy2: If a website excludes men from getting a job with them, is that legal?
I received an e mail for jobs in clerical, administrative, customer service, call center, healthcare, nursing, medical, construction, retail, media, design, advertising. I find it offensive that since we are in an equal rights society that this site would discriminate against men. Do I have recourse? I am seeking employment and find this site offensive to men.

Best answer:

Answer by mark
Its only legal to restrict applicants to males/females if there is something about the job that is specific to a gender.

A strip club would be an example of a legal gender specific hire.

For the careers you indicated, I would say the employer is on thin ice.

Calling All Cars: A Child Shall Lead Them / Weather Clear Track Fast / Day Stakeout

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is the police department of the city of Los Angeles, California. The LAPD has been copiously fictionalized in numerous movies, novels and television shows throughout its history. The department has also been associated with a number of controversies, mainly concerned with racial animosity, police brutality and police corruption. The radio show Calling All Cars hired LAPD radio dispacher Jesse Rosenquist to be the voice of the dispatcher. Rosenquist was already famous because home radios could tune into early police radio frequencies. As the first police radio dispatcher presented to the public ear, his was the voice that actors went to when called upon for a radio dispatcher role. The iconic television series Dragnet, with LAPD Detective Joe Friday as the primary character, was the first major media representation of the department. Real LAPD operations inspired Jack Webb to create the series and close cooperation with department officers let him make it as realistic as possible, including authentic police equipment and sound recording on-site at the police station. Due to Dragnet’s popularity, LAPD Chief Parker “became, after J. Edgar Hoover, the most well known and respected law enforcement official in the nation”. In the 1960s, when the LAPD under Chief Thomas Reddin expanded its community relations division and began efforts to reach out to the African-American community, Dragnet followed suit with more emphasis on internal
