In order to finish my degree, should I take out a line of credit or work full time?

Question by Amaranth: In order to finish my degree, should I take out a line of credit or work full time?
If I continue in school full time, I will finish my Bachelor of Social Work degree in 1 year. However, I currently have a student loan debt of $ 43,000. My first option is to take a $ 10,000 line of credit and continue in school full time, finishing in 1 year. My second option is to work full time at a job that earns $ 23/hour, but it will take 2 years to finish my degree. The job I can take is not related to social work, but it is a government job at a call centre. Here in BC, the average income of a starting social worker is about $ 44,000 (for full time work; not sure if this income is for social workers with a BSW and/or MSW). What would you do?

Get the loan but get a part time job so that you can start paying down on it immediately.

I would list them both as Macy’s but just put down both job titles you had and what dates you held them from.

Should I work at firestone to start my auto tech career?

Question by Oscar: Should I work at firestone to start my auto tech career?
Alright so im going to universal trchnical institute to help me jump into my career as an automotive technician…I have VERY little experiece. I currently work at a call center making a decent paycheck. Firestone offered me a job as an entry level tech and I dont know if I should take it or not. I will be paid on flag time and I will take a pay cut going there. But my question is, would this be an ok job to start my career off?

Best answer:

Answer by Kelly
I think it’s a great place to start and get some solid experience. You don’t have to stay there very long, maybe 2 years or so unless you really like it. If you can still afford your bills with a pay cut, then take the job. Good luck!

I think you should be doing your job search from now. It could take anywhere from 3-6 months to land a job. As a resource you should start a network on LinkedIn.com. I just landed a job from someone in my network and it actually speed up the process because it was someone who knew me.

Good Luck.

- Office administration and inventory
- Filing
- Miscellaneous clerical/administrative tasks and projects

Answer by Adnan Masood
I think that it all depends on the company in question. Many companies have different job titles for similar positions and visa versa. Some companies will also hire without any experience and others will not.

When I think of a customer service supervisor, I tend to think of the customer service counter at my grocery store. There are always employees there to redeem lottery tickets, bottle returns, cash paychecks, handle money orders, and so forth. With that said, there is always a person wearing a different uniform standing on the sidelines. I tend to think of that person as the supervisor of the customer service department.

It wouldn’t hurt to apply for the job even if you don’t have any experience. Just know that your chances of getting a call for an interview might be less than others who apply.

When filling our your job application or resume, post as much relevant information as you can. This includes volunteer work where you worked with consumers and provided service. Something as simple as being a cashier at a mall store will help. Although you do not have management or supervisor experience, the customer service experience will come in handy.

Good luck!

Should I quit my job and look for something else?

Question by Jake Sully: Should I quit my job and look for something else?
It’s a low-paying job at a call center.

The good thing about this job is that it’s close to where I live and that the co-workers are a pretty cool bunch (mostly college students working on the side). The downside is the low pay (I get $ 1,100 per month for 35 hrs/week), and that the job itself is boring and monotonous.

So should I quit and start looking for something else? What do you think?

You should start looking for something else. Once you find it then quit your job.

How much should i ask to be paid working front desk at a hotel?

Question by su_cu: How much should i ask to be paid working front desk at a hotel?
It is a hampton inn hotel in austin tx, pretty nice hotel in a nice area of town. I have never worked at a hotel before but lots of customer service experiance, my last job was at a bank with ending salary of $ 13.77, i’m sure they’re not gonna offer that much, but does it look bad if i ask for less than i was making at my last job? Thanks

Best answer:

Answer by Tony S
Yes, it clearly demonstrates your inability to hold a job. Don’t worry though millions of others are just like you. You should ask for $ 9.89 an hour.

Should I put my online business on Resume?

Question by JoyFaith: Should I put my online business on Resume?
Hello,
I haven’t worked a outside job in over a year. I am having a hard time finding a job. Would you list your online business on your resume? to show what i’ve been doing since their is a gap in my employment.

I’ve been applying for administrative or customer service jobs, which I have experience in.

Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by Sky Blue
I know exactly what you are going through. I have put it on my resume, but employers seemed to be confused “why are you looking for a job with us when you have/had your own business online” I would list it, but highlight your tasks, more than the fact that you are/were the owner.

What do you think? Answer below!

How should you dress to a job fair that has onsite interviews?

Question by JP: How should you dress to a job fair that has onsite interviews?
I’m going to a job fair tuesday at a mall. Jobs include IT, Technical, Light industrial, customer service, clerical and administrative openings. I’m not sure how professional I should dress and I’m looking for advice.

Best answer:

Answer by kako
Always dress like you are going to a real interview. Wear appropriate attire. Never wear jeans, a t-shirt, sneakers, etc. You don’t have to wear a suit, but it would help to look professional. Look successful, don’t look like a slob or a slacker.
