My suggestion would be to take direct Asiad or Volvo bus from Swargate or other Pune bus station. Check for private bus operators as well, they may have one plying on this route.

Q&A: Is it okay to travel by bike to Shirdi from Pune?

Question by Dizzy: Is it okay to travel by bike to Shirdi from Pune?
I’m planning to ride to Shirdi from Pune on my 4-speed Royal Enfield Electra. The longest I’ve done before is 4 hours from Shimla to Chandigarh. But then Himachal has good roads with little crime. Is it safe to ride to Shirdi if I’m planning to arrive by 10:30 p.m? Are the roads okay and will I end up getting mugged because I’m going it alone? Also how long will it take and what’s the distance?

Answer by mahua
The condition of the roads on the highway is good — till it reaches Shirdi. But throughout your journey by road drive cautiously no matter how confident a driver you may be.This is because, there are several long distance buses, transport trucks, and more dangerously private taxis (Sumo and Qualis) driving at breakneck speed, flouting every single traffic, and safety rules.
Yes it is safe on the roads and muggings are not heard of. The drive through Ahmednagar is picturesque so do try it in the daytime.
The total distance from Pune to Shirdi is about 205 to 210 kms.
Pune to Ahmednagar: 120 kms
Ahmednagar to Shirdi: 85 kms

Faith is a great leveller. Every year, keeping aside divisions of religion, caste, class and gender, thousands of people from all over India undertake a 12 day-long journey on foot to meet Lord Sai in Maharashtra’s famed pilgrim town, Shirdi. This Oraganised By Saibaba Palkhi Sohla Samiti, Which is a pune based organisation trying to spread Sai Philosophy and His teachings among the devotees who are living across the world.
