How should I list a former employer on my resume if they were bought out by another company?

Question by : How should I list a former employer on my resume if they were bought out by another company?
I worked for Macys in 2002
in 2007 I worked for another department store which was later bought out by Macys. I had different job titles at both companies, so how should I list them on my resume?

Best answer:

Answer by NLo
I would list them both as Macy’s but just put down both job titles you had and what dates you held them from.

Why do employment gaps, resume gaps, matter so much to hiring-managers, employers, why do they give a crap?

Question by OCDSportsGuy: Why do employment gaps, resume gaps, matter so much to hiring-managers, employers, why do they give a crap?
about it? why are employers, hiring-managers, wary, reluctant or just have to question someone as to why have they been out of work for a long time? why do they want to know what the person has been doing during that time? especially if it is a minimum-wage entry-level service job, customer-service job in retail, fast-food, restaurant, etc., that pays 8 to 10 bucks an hour?

Why do these type of jobs have the highest, most intense amount of competition in order to get hired at?

Should I put my online business on Resume?

Question by JoyFaith: Should I put my online business on Resume?
Hello,
I haven’t worked a outside job in over a year. I am having a hard time finding a job. Would you list your online business on your resume? to show what i’ve been doing since their is a gap in my employment.

I’ve been applying for administrative or customer service jobs, which I have experience in.

Thanks!

Answer by Sky Blue
I know exactly what you are going through. I have put it on my resume, but employers seemed to be confused “why are you looking for a job with us when you have/had your own business online” I would list it, but highlight your tasks, more than the fact that you are/were the owner.

How should I tailor my resume for a job fair?

Question by Sarah S: How should I tailor my resume for a job fair?
I have been out of the job market for a few years (raising kids) and will be attending a job fair in the fall. I am interested in several types of careers (customer service, sales, publications) as my experience, interest, and education covers all these areas. Is it acceptable to hand out a resume that does not state a clear objective?

Best answer:

Answer by Buy the Numbers
It is acceptable, but it is also a waste of your (and the employer’s time). Employers look for easy ways to weed through resumes. I once had a guy apply for two drastically different positions in the company and in his cover letter he asked to be considered for “the one that paid more.” He may have been qualified for at least one of the positons, but I never even read his resume after that.

You have to think from the employer’s perspective: would you hirer someone who’s resume basically says: if you’re hiring, I’m applying/give me any job you have?

I’d just go with multiple resumes, one for each general position: ie, a sales resumes with an objective as a sales associate or sales maneger AND emphasizing the sales experience in your previous positions. a customer service resume emphasizing interactions with customers, etc. Don’t tailor just the objective.

Also, unlike this answer, make sure to spell check your resume electronically, and then spell-check a printout manually.

It is a lot more work with separate resumes, but compared to the potential payoff (a job), it is worth it.

Should I submit a resume when applying for a fast food job?

Question by M: Should I submit a resume when applying for a fast food job?
I’m going to be applying to some fast food places, and I’m not quite sure if I should give a resume in addition to filling out the application. I don’t want to look overqualified and thus reduce my chances of getting the job. I don’t have any fast food experience, but I do have quite a bit of customer service experience (call centers, tech support, etc) and a bit of management experience (at a video game store).

So would it be a good idea to include my resume? Or would it be be going overboard?

Best answer:

Answer by myfakeemailaddress77
they don’t want it… they only want you to fill out the online or paper application form.

What should I put on my resume?

Question by Anna: What should I put on my resume?
I’m applying to different call centers and I need a resume. The problem is that I’ve never had a job before. What kind of things should I put anyway? What things would be relevant to a call center job?
I realize now that I put this under theater and acting… I’M SO SORRY!

Best answer:

Answer by Cogito
This section is about Theatre & Acting – but if you’ve never had a job all you can put on the resume would be your education – schools, grades, qualifications, etc.
You could add a few hobbies, as long as they make you sound bright, alert and intelligent.
Good luck!

If I worked at a company more than once, should I list it more than once on my resume?

Question by clmbrgrl: If I worked at a company more than once, should I list it more than once on my resume?
I worked for a company and I left. A couple years later, I was rehired by the same company. Should I list it twice, or just add multiple dates under the same company?

Thank you.

Best answer:

Answer by Beaux Bells
I listed it twice to show some clarity and to keep chronological order.
Positions were different and it was just too much to keep together.
