Question by Fox: Is it possible to get a good job in this market with 0 experience?
I’m hoping to enter the job market very soon after a long stint as a homemaker. I have some customer service and technical editor experience under my belt from a trillion years ago, but that’s about it. I need to somehow manage to find a job to support a family on nothing more than a bachelor’s degree in a useless major [Anthropology] and very little work or technical experience. Is it possible in this market? What areas/occupations should I look into?

You might try some temp jobs. This will put some experience under your belt and also give you the chance to try some things out so that, hopefully, you later won’t be working at a job you hate.
I also suggest you talk to friends and see how they ended up in the jobs they have now.

i want to get into banking, and an entry-level job as a bank teller seems like the best way to start. i’m getting a degree (business)…but i dont’ really have any prior cash handling or customer service experience…just wondering if these r really necessary before i apply for a bank teller job.

They do want that generally. A good way to get cash experience is to get a job as a data proof encoder. It’s essentially ten key data entry, but it’ll give you experience plus get you in the door.

I recently applied for a job at a local YMCA as a customer service representative. I have 5 years experience in that field. I retired from our local phone company, and am 55 years old. I also worked behind the desk, at another gym, for 2 years. Upon completion of interview, I asked that I be called either way upon their decision. They said they would call but never did. I have since seen that jobs have been filled by two young guys that probably haven’t been out of school for 5 years. I truly feel that my age counted against me. Does anyone know the proper course of action I could possibly take?

If you’re not in a hurry to earn money, I can suggest some which is
good for your background resume.
You could do volunteer works in different places, such as children’s home,
teaching street children, old folks home, or anything charitable…
However, you can do whatever… just a thought.
By the way, I have a sister and a niece who are nurses.

i’m curious about what are possible jobs i’d take or something when having the course AB Linguistics and Literature.
some say i can be a stewardess, a tour guide, a teacher, a tutor, a translator or even a call center agent. but aside from those, what else?

Hi all
am dave, am a B.E (ECE) graduate 2006 passed out, worked for a year in international BPO then waster more than a year trying to get in IT, finally decided to go for bank exams, i,ve ben writting this bank exams for 10 months i cleared 4 written out of 4 one is PO posting others are clerical, being an engineer some banks cant offer a clerical job, so now am concentrating only on PO, i studied in a coaching centre for 6 months to get familiar with banking exam, now i feel bad that am wasting my time preparing only for this test,hope you understood.. so i got a temp. job in chennai, is it possible to crack the PO exam by working? buddies just suggest me whether i should concentrate only on this preparation or to do a job and prepare for the exams?

Possible yes.
Doing the work preparing for an exam is essential, but work experience can be of use as well. Good luck.
