How can I become a virtual assistant? Where can I look for jobs?

Question by winssqueeky: How can I become a virtual assistant? Where can I look for jobs?
I’ve had about 7 years experience in office work doing everything from data entry to Microsoft office to Excel to phones to mailing to customer service to scheduling appointments. I am very interested in working from home. I think that’s pretty cool. I don’t want to be scammed either.
Where can I find a reputable site to post my resume to and look for jobs there?

You need to be searching for Virtual Assistant associations or networks. These are professional association groups for the industry where you will learn about developing as a VA, learn how to run a business, how to get clients and in fact, some of the network sites even help you get clients.
They also have discussion forums, facilities for training, and adding more resources to your business, the ability to sub-contract to or for other VAs and so on.
These are reputable associations and not scams and built to help grow the industry. Some of them also host Virtual Assistant conferences and there is one major online conference each year in May also.

Should I quit my job and look for something else?
Posted by PuneStuff in Pune Stuff Questions & Answers on April 13th, 2013
Question by Jake Sully: Should I quit my job and look for something else?
It’s a low-paying job at a call center.
The good thing about this job is that it’s close to where I live and that the co-workers are a pretty cool bunch (mostly college students working on the side). The downside is the low pay (I get $ 1,100 per month for 35 hrs/week), and that the job itself is boring and monotonous.
So should I quit and start looking for something else? What do you think?

You should start looking for something else. Once you find it then quit your job.

I know the economy is very bad right now. All I’m looking for is just any retail or customer service job. In the past month, I’ve applied to walmart, burger king, mcdonalds, oreilly parts, auto zone, hotels, advanced auto parts etc. I think you get the message. Not one has called me back. I don’t know what to do any help would be welcome.

Have you tried a temp agency? Sometimes they can help get those types of jobs. Also go online to your local unemployment office website. Good luck finding something.

Question by Lanette: What industry and jobs should I look for with my experience in retail and security?
I have done customer service for five years with Bed, Bath, and Beyond and K-Mart, and worked for AlliedBarton Security Services for 8 months. I have done retail sales for two years and training for three years. What jobs and industries should I consider working in? I also have a Bachelor Degree in Human Resources Management.

If it is an area you enjoy you may want to look into personal protection companies. I’m sure they would value your skills and experience. There seems to be a growing trend in this field as I’m seeing more colleges offering degrees. One thing that comes to mind is working for a company procuring government contracts.

I have a cold and a job interview for a customer service position.. How bad does it look?

Question by Jess: I have a cold and a job interview for a customer service position.. How bad does it look?
I have a cold, and therefore a very hoarse voice. It’s for an over the phone customer service position. I’m going to take halls to suck on and try not to make that smacking noise, but I don’t know if anything else will help the fact that this isn’t my voice right now and I think it will effect my ability to get the job. It shows that when I’m sick I’ll still show up, but I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing. Help! I need someone else’s opinion. Wish me luck! Thank you

Tell them when you show up that you have a cold and tell them that is why you don’t want to shake hands (only if they reach out). Just keep it as descret as you can.
Good Luck!

The questions is a bit vague, but I think I know what you are asking. If I was looking for a customer service position I would be interested in:
1) Schedule Flexibility – Can I take time off if needed when it has been earned?
2) Wages/Benefits – Am I going to make enough money and have adequate insurance or other perks?
3) Job Satisfaction – Will I enjoy what I am doing, or will I not want to go to work every day?
4) Opporunity for Advancement – Am I going to be stuck there, or will I have a chance to grow and move up?
Those are the big four that most everyone looks for when they are looking for a Customer Service Position. Hope that helps you out…

Question by Shanana: I plan on getting my masters in school psychology, what kind of jobs should I look for right now?
What kind of jobs should I work to gain applicable experience? I’ve been doing call-center jobs for awhile now, but somehow, I don’t think being skilled at selling whozididdles is going to help me land a job as a highschool counselor.

Try governmental agencies, like probation departments or social services. They often hire psych majors. They just don’t pay well. Good experience though.
