Q&A: How do I find a list of all the medium size hi tech companies in Silicon Valley?

Question by Curious7: How do I find a list of all the medium size hi tech companies in Silicon Valley?
I’d like to find a mailing list of all the CEOs in Silicon Valley that run medium size hi tech firms with revenues between $ 5 million – $ 200 million. If such a list is not available, I could make do with just a list of company names and their website addresses.

Is there an industry association that these firms belong to that perhaps has a membership directory?

Yes, you can obtain a list of the hi-tech (and other) companies in Silicon Valley through the San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce. See the link, below.

Check their website for basic information, such as you described. Contact the chamber is additional information is required.

Hope this helps.

Q&A: Why do business for sale not list their company name?

Question by Shawn778: Why do business for sale not list their company name?
I am interested in seeing what it will take to acquire a business that may be for sale in my area. However, I have noticed when I look online that they will be vague about the name of the company that they are selling. Is there a reason the company doesn’t list their name in the description of the company for sale?

You should contact a commercial REALTOR who will work with you in finding the kind of business for which you are looking. Very often a business owner wants to sell but will only reveal this fact under a strict confidentiality agreement signed by the prospective buyer.

These owners do not want to jeopardize their business by sending the wrong message to either their employees or their customers. It is common practice to keep locations, names and other sensitive information from competitors.

When you do find something that interests you take a due diligence period to confirm that everything that is being disclosed is correct. You will want to examine the sales volume, expenses, value of inventory and equipment. Additionally, you may want to know first hand what the lease agreement is and if it is renewable.

If you are purchasing real estate you will want an appraisal and confirmation that the building and land are correctly zoned and have no defects.

All of this is just for starters. If you are a novice then you need professional help by your REALTOR, attorneys, appraisers, accountants and so forth depending on the size and price of what you intend to buy. Do not skimp on what needs to be done or you will be kicking yourself later.

These kinds of ventures are not for sissies and you will have to spend some money before making any purchase.

There really isn’t such a list. There are some companies that can provide such a list but they charge for the information.

I would list them both as Macy’s but just put down both job titles you had and what dates you held them from.

How can I impress my boss on a marketing project involving the creation of a list of potential customers?

Question by squdsi1: How can I impress my boss on a marketing project involving the creation of a list of potential customers?
I have a huge list of people and their positions in the company they work for. Most of the companies are not-for-profit and the people on the list are generally in executive or leadership positions. My job is to compile a list of their contact information, specifically their email and work phone number. I would like to go above and beyond his expectations of the project. One possibility I have thought of is also inserting a little sentence about how the comapany can benefit from our service. I am new to the company and it is a small stat-up: I would like to make a good impression, but considering the length of the list, I need to consider how I can make it quality work and manage to complete the task in a reasonable amount of time. Any suggestions at all are welcome and I appreciate all positive responses. Thanks a lot.

Answer by hanozbk
Once you’ve collected their emails and work phones, identify a measure or characteristic that is common in all your cutomers. Based on that characteristic, compile a list of say the 20 top customers that exhibit that characteristic best.

It can be more than 1 characteristic which runs through all of them or the majority of them. In which case, your list will be reduced to say top 15.

Then add one more quality and which will further reduce your list, but then all those companies in this list will have all qualities.

Compile each list in rank order. Give your boss all lists and begin with the one that has the most number of characteristics.

If it doesn’t work, he’ll at least see that you’re making an effort on your own; you’re taking initiative. All the best!

Q&A: How do I go about getting a REAL list of companies who drop-ship their products?

Question by nsluyters@sbcglobal.net: How do I go about getting a REAL list of companies who drop-ship their products?
An online store is secondary to my primary service offering. There is an opportunity however to provide products to a niche market (college students) on my website. I think I could do well but I don’t want to have inventory.
Products to be carried are pens, pencils, calculators, flash drives, software etc…

Answer by mikelambert22
There is an Ebay sourcing book by Lisa Suttora and Chris Malta. You can find it on ebay or Amazon. It addresses the REAL supplier issue you are concerned about and can be used by other on and off-line non-ebay businesses.

What do you think? Answer below!
