Bre-X Minerals was a large Canadian mining fraud. That’s probably the closest equivalent to Enron among Canadian stocks.

How difficult is it to get a job like this?

Question by Luna: How difficult is it to get a job like this?
I’m looking for some inspiration for my fiance as far as a job goes. He has no idea what he wants to do for a career. Right now, he’s been working as a dishwasher / prep cook (for a few years now) and absolutely hates it! Gaming is his biggest hobby, he can’t stand math or repetitive, boring jobs. He has a High School diploma, but no college degree.

Any ideas for something he should look for? We were thinking about tech support, customer service, or something along those lines, as he’s the friendliest person I know and has amazing social skills. Is getting a job like this hard to get for someone without a college degree or much experience though?

Something that makes good money as well, of course. We’ve both been working in random “just-above-minimum-wage” jobs, so we don’t really know what to look for, what’s hard to get/not hard to get, etcetera. So any help, ideas or advice would be much appreciated.
If it’s relevant at all, we’re going to be living in the San Francisco Bay Area in California (around the area of Sunnyvale).
Also, he’s looking for something more than being a waiter and whatnot. Every job he’s had has been in a restaurant – he wants to go for something completely different, and something that’s more of a career, rather than just a job. =)

What about restaurant management? They make good money.

Go to the SEC website
www.sec.gov

Find each company’s 10K (annual report)

For instance, I found that IBM has 150,000,000 shares of preferred stock authorized but none outstanding.

Is there a published list somewhere of new companies? Like a government listing of new companies?

Question by redims81: Is there a published list somewhere of new companies? Like a government listing of new companies?
for a school project i need to identify and contact new manufacturing companies…”new ventures” or “start-ups” if you will. I know there are news articles and such about start ups, but I’m looking for an official listing of new manufacturing companies.
well who are these companies that provide it at a fee?
So i have to contact every city in Massachusetts to find out the new companies in the state? is there a more efficient way?

Best answer:

Answer by WRG
There really isn’t such a list. There are some companies that can provide such a list but they charge for the information.

What is the job market like in Las Vegas compared to Los Angeles?

Question by ~Lovely~: What is the job market like in Las Vegas compared to Los Angeles?
I am considering leaving Los Angeles to Las Vegas for a fresh start.I wanted to know what industries have the most jobs available. I am 22 so I don’t have a lot of work experience. Most of my work experience is in Customer service and Security. I am also interested in going to cosmetology school there, or possibly studying art.

Answer by lvgeno
Job market is terrible here. Major casinos are laying off workers. That is where the most jobs here in vegas are situated. When they do have to hire someone there are 50 applicants for each opening. Plus the fact they are experienced and already live here makes it even more difficult for someone to move here and find work. The area that is still doing well is security but there are reasons for it. I would not suggest moving here at this time.

What are some good cashiering/customer service jobs? It feels like no one is hiring. Any suggestions?

Question by kerkergurl: What are some good cashiering/customer service jobs? It feels like no one is hiring. Any suggestions?
I have four years cashiering experience with some customer service skills; No crazy hours (nothing past 10pm) and I don’t want to be a barista

Home improvement stores are good if you don’t want to work past 10 – most of them close by 9 anyway.

Beware though, Lowe’s front end managers are weird about scheduling breaks and lunches. I used to get sent to lunch at 3:00 when I came in at 1:30, then they never wanted to give me 15-minute breaks in the evening. So I would frequently be stuck at the return desk until closing at 9:00.

Q&A: How exactly do e*trade, scot trade, and companies like that work?

Question by jake.swift: How exactly do e*trade, scot trade, and companies like that work?
How exactly do those companies work with the stock market?

Best answer:

Answer by RobertG
they run a brokerage house which processes securities transactions within the parameters of legality with the Securities Exchange commission to allow customers to purchase and sell securities. the brokers who handle your transactions have to be Series-7 certified just like a broker in a brick-and-mortar brokerage. they make out because they offer reduced services and dont advise on the financial services they provide. they’re basically mcdonalds online.. quick menu, buy what you want.

Q&A: I would like to know the problems if I want to transfer my call centre to Asia i.e India?

Question by farukhbeyg: I would like to know the problems if I want to transfer my call centre to Asia i.e India?
I am planning to open a call centre in India so would like to know the problems associated with it and if there are ay solutions to it.

Best answer:

Answer by Byron M
Call centers in india or asia are not always your best option. The biggest issues are:

1. Language differences. Not only in accents but vocabulary. These nations typically learn british phonetics and will throw off people when needing support.
2. Phone quality – it is expensive to provide quality phone service over seas beacause of latency and reliability. These countries are exploding in infrastructure and the stability and reliablity is not always on par with expectations for calls, dropped calls and performance of audio quality.
3. Training – You would want your overseas partners to be as fluent as your local call center. Remember though when you train offshore your giving them more opportunity and your “Turnover” will be just as high or higher because those people will gain experieinces that make them more billable and will often walk/turnover quicker than people located here.
4. Following training – turnover. As your overseas call center gets more productive and experienced your costs will inherantly increase because you will be paying for that experience or you will pay in the form of turnover by loosing those who are experienced to higher paying jobs.

All in all if you have a presence in those nations already and can serve local clients off shore call centers may be an option. HOWEVER if your client base is 100% US based it often isn’t worth the monetary savings you would see in 1-2 years because your overall long term costs could actually be higher at a cost as well as the cost in quality and performance that you can better micro manage locally.
