What is a good objective to get a legal secretary or legal assistant job?

Question by annabanana: What is a good objective to get a legal secretary or legal assistant job?
I need to get a job in the legal field, but I do not have any experience other than my current customer service/clerical/admin full time work. I’ve been having a hard time deciding if I should say something simple like, ” Seeking a legal secretary position for a progressive organization” or ” Responsible position in the legal industry involving multiple detail oriented responsibilities”.

Of the two you have, I prefer “Responsible position in the legal industry involving multiple detail oriented responsibilities” — but neither really catches my eye. The — this one has too much responsibleness (i.e. responsible twice) in it — it seems like you are trying too hard.

Personally, I am a fan of putting something about your love of the legal industry together with your experience in clerical work together to the advantage of a firm.

Legal Advice Required for US?

Question by GT: Legal Advice Required for US?
I am a resident of India, I was employed by a BPO Company (call center) incorporated in India till last month I have worked there for almost 8 yrs. This BPO Company had one Client a US Company the owner of which was also the owner of the Indian Company.

In 2010 He made me a Profit Sharing partner in his US firm. I accepted this offer via my official email ID. (Yes I have the email conversation). The 2011 Profit sharing was to be paid by May 15th 2012 But has not been paid yet, He last month declared an amount which seemed very low when asked for accounting I was shut down and terminated from the Indian company. My attempts to resolve this issue with him has been totally unsuccessful. He at one time suggested getting a re-audit but asked me to keep a deposit stating that the profit would come even less and aasked me to bear half the cost of the Audit. I agreed to the Audit and informed him that will bear the cost for the audit if he is right if not he would have to pay me back with interest and Penalty. His responded by telling me to take it or lose it. Since then communications have come to a stop. I still have not received the 2011 Profit sharing or the 2012 Profit sharing. by my calculations this amount should be minimum of $ 20000.

I need to know since Email is considered a Written agreement. Do I have a Case against the US firm? And will this fall under Contract Law? I would like to file a suit to recover my dues owing to me plus interest and punitive damages if possible.

Awaiting your reply.

Thanks

You need to contact a corporate lawyer versed in international law.
You will need one to pursue a suit against your business partner so you may as well start now with this question.

How do you obtain legal copies of software?

Question by Capie: How do you obtain legal copies of software?
I am doing this project for school where there is a situation in which a company does not have copies of the software they use. The developers use microsoft’s visual studio package and MS-Office. The managment and business staff uses Office, Intuit and custom SQL applications. They don’t have legal copies of any of the software. How do I get the legal copies for them? Thank you!

Best answer:

Answer by brayden
To get legal software you have to buy the license. You can buy any of the software you mentioned at any office store (such as Office Depot, Office Max, Staples, Microsoft themselves, Amazon, Tiget Direct). The list is endless.

My suggestion is that you have them purchase volume licenses. Volume licensing is much cheaper for a business because it’s based on volume purchasing…which is much cheaper than buying multiple single-user versions of the software.

Contact Microsoft directly and inquire about their volume licensing program.

If a website excludes men from getting a job with them, is that legal?

Question by scottlevy2: If a website excludes men from getting a job with them, is that legal?
I received an e mail for jobs in clerical, administrative, customer service, call center, healthcare, nursing, medical, construction, retail, media, design, advertising. I find it offensive that since we are in an equal rights society that this site would discriminate against men. Do I have recourse? I am seeking employment and find this site offensive to men.

Best answer:

Answer by mark
Its only legal to restrict applicants to males/females if there is something about the job that is specific to a gender.

A strip club would be an example of a legal gender specific hire.

For the careers you indicated, I would say the employer is on thin ice.

Getting work for BPO can be done by having a sales team (call center type) who can make calls to companies which are in US, UK or in Europe which actually outsource project. You can find N number of potential companies which are ready to offer project. you can also bid for projects in some of the sites like elance.com, freelance.com, contractedwork.com, etc. provided you are looking for small projects. If you want to work in big way just try to setup a sales team and cotact companies directly.

All the best…

Does anyone know of a company that sends you checks to cash that is legal?

Question by canada: Does anyone know of a company that sends you checks to cash that is legal?
This company called AlertPay Financial services have contacted me about a job offer to cash checks for there company with a 10% salary.
Is this legit? Are there companies that are Legit ?

Best answer:

Answer by Lauren F
OHHH NOOOOO…. Do not fall for these scams. Do you really think any company that calls itself a “financial” services company does not have the ability to deposit a check in a bank?

These things are all scams. They count on people being desperate to believe money can be this easy. How it works is they ask you to deposit a check for say $ 1,000, and wire back $ 900 through Western Union or worse, giving them your bank account number. The say you can keep $ 100 as a “commission”. That $ 1,000 check you deposit is a fraud, and by the time your bank finds out the $ 900 you sent to AlertPay is long gone. Your bank will them come after you for the $ 1,000.

If you get anything from these folks, contact the postal inspector.

What course should i take to become a legal secretary?

Question by Janelle Marie S: What course should i take to become a legal secretary?
I am 18 years of age, and is planning on changing my career…I can’t seem to grasp the idea of becoming a doctor. It’s not something I’m good at. Rather, I can see myself as someone working in a company or an office either as a call center agent or a legal secretary. This job can be very challenging but it is something that I think I will be able to enjoy. So, I would like to know what degree/s should I take to become one. Thank you!

Best answer:

Answer by Prorkycake
Many legal secretaries actually have no formal training or education as it is usually an entry level position. Avoid the “technical/vocational” certificate programs. They are not worth the money you invest.

I would suggest attending an ABA approved paralegal program. If you are interested in becoming a legal secretary, the legal curriculum will help you. While most legal secretaries have different duties than a paralegal, often many attorneys use their legal secretary as a paralegal. Also, browse your community college catalogs. I know the college I attended had an “office management” degree that prepared you for becoming an office administrator. This will help you immensely. Many times, the legal secretary is the person responsible for running the office. You want a degree that will prepare you for that.

Stay away from certificate programs and find an associate’s degree program with classes that will apply to running an office.

Is it legal to have a corporate structure in a non corporation?

Question by Ping: Is it legal to have a corporate structure in a non corporation?
I have an online based business(not legally considered a company / business). We deal with software, servers, etc. When I set it up I had the idea to give it a Corporate Structure. It is sectioned into departments. I also have a department called Corporate Customer Care. Corporate Customer Care(CCC) deals with things that do not relate directly to the software / servers ect.(That would be support dept). Is this legal even though it is not incorporated?

Best answer:

Answer by Gerry S
It’s iffy – you’re using the term “corporate”, which should refer to a corporation. The rest is entirely fine, though you need a corporation (or LLC) to protect you in case of problems.

Q&A: is it legal for companies to ban their employees from listing their place of employment?

Question by weirdguy0509: is it legal for companies to ban their employees from listing their place of employment?
My wife’s work just sent out a letter banning their personnel from listing the company as their “place of employment” on Facebook. Is that even legal? It’s something they’re doing on their own time and it’s not at all related to negative comments (like it’s not banning them from saying “ABC Company sucks!”, it’s literally just listing the company on their work history). For some reason, they are allowed to list it in Linked In. Thoughts?

Best answer:

Answer by Common Sense
No, but they can fire you for not doing it.

Can anyone explain the Citizens United decision to me? It sounds like the Supreme Court is saying that companies have the “constitutional right” to bribe politicians by giving them money in return for their vote.
