What are some jobs that are “on-call”?
Posted by PuneStuff in Pune Stuff Questions & Answers on May 13th, 2012
Question by Alex: What are some jobs that are “on-call”?
I’m a college student currently working as a banquet server at a hotel. Since it’s on-call it’s pretty flexible, but I’ve been working there for a year now and I think it’s time to do something else. Does anybody know of any other on-call jobs for college students? I’ve been doing some research and it seems that call centers are pretty good for college students in that they offer tuition reimbursement. Any other suggestions would be appreciated, thank you in advance.

Answer by Ashley R
On-call as in they call you to come in and work? That’s not that flexible.
All call centers that I know of want you to sign up for certain shifts. That would be considered more per diem since you have to work X amount of hours on the shifts they have open. Call centers actually suck, to be honest. The only person that liked their job was someone who worked at a sex call center. She loved it and was paid quite a bit. I worked in a regular call center and hated it.
The usual ones like retail or fast food are pretty good. Sometimes you can find something within your major or look and see if they have any positions like assistants at your college. Student patrol at universities are pretty good and I’ve never heard of anyone getting harassed. Plus you have radios and they check in on you.

How can I find my dream job? I have a hard time finding job because I have worked many temp jobs in my life.?

Question by Tina C: How can I find my dream job? I have a hard time finding job because I have worked many temp jobs in my life.?
I have worked temp jobs from the year 2000 to currently. And I am having a very hard time finding something I really like which is office work. Temp agency will not find me work where I can use my computer skills, they always put me in the customer service jobs. And permanent employers act like they dont want to hire me because of no stable work history. What can I do? I’ve tried everthing. From using famous coverletter and making my resume look professional. The Business School I went to helped me with the coverletters and resume set up. Now what can I do to find my Ideal job in life? I need some good advice on what to do next.

Keep trying. Really, that is the only advice I can offer you. I had the same problem, but mine was more because I bounced around from job to job due to being unhappy with them. Now, I am a office manager of a small company. I’ve been here a year, and I absolutely love it. I can come to work how I want, I’m allowed to be myself, and it’s just a great place to work.

Question by Swami n: dO BPO JOBS HAVE FUTURE?
bPO JOBS WILL HAVE GOOD FUTURE AS SOFTWARE OR IT IS BOOMING MORE THAN SOFTWARE FIELD, WHICH ONE IS PREFERRED TO WORK IN THESE TWO?
Best answer:
Answer by karuna
the question u asked is really is one tht is been asked by many people…the thing is BPO will b having great future as software field but the main thing is about the shifts ,if we try to or get habituated about this shifts we can really emerge in this field. And one more advantage about this field is the mental strain that is being taken by many software side people, the BPo guys will not have this tension.Considering the pay also it is as same as the software side.. so i thnk if we get habituated about the shifts we can really enjoy this field iam saying tis bcoz iam working in a top mnc BPO which iam really satisfied…thk u

I’m not confident I know what I’m doing in that field but it is said to be an easy job that most of the time pays well. I believe I can’t speak professionally, nor know how to handle taking care of calls and working on computer programs such as powerpoint or exel. What kind of college classes are a must or would help tons to master my job correctly?

Q&A: Why are people such as*holes to people in customer service jobs?

Question by Colbertson2598: Why are people such as*holes to people in customer service jobs?
I’m just so sick of people acting so much better than everyone that works in fast food, grocery stores and ETC. Most mistakes aren’t even the fault of the person you are talking to. Today some guy started bitching me out for his own mistake. Not all people who work in these types of jobs are total losers. I’m on my way to finishing my bachelors. I have my own house and my own car. We don’t all make minimum wage at these places. I know most of you out there have had your fair share of telling off the person who is suspected of fucking up your order. Why do you do it? Why ruin someone’s day?
You guys gave me a lot of good answers but some are kind of… questionable. To be clear, i only meantioned the fact that i’m in college because it this was one of the subjects that jerk brought up. I have been in the service industry for years in management and have never really had a second thought about a complaint or a drunk asshole telling me whats what. It just so happened that this guy really got to me. part of it was because when he was walking out the door, he began to tell off the greeter in a wheel chair at the door. Thus making her cry. I just don’t get why people can be so rude to strangers when they had nothing to do with anything. Seriously, what did an old lady in a wheel chair haved to do with not being able to afford a nice pot?

This is one of the hazards of working in service jobs. It proves that there are some people in the world who think everything revolves around them. The best you can do is to return their yapping with courtesy and a willingness to rectify any mistake that’s been made.

Apple unveils new super-slim Air laptop computer Steve Jobs
Posted by PuneStuff in Pune Videos on April 28th, 2012
MovieLessons.com Apple Inc. Chief Executive Steve Jobs took the wraps off a super-slim new laptop at the Macworld trade show on Tuesday, unveiling a personal computer less than an inch thick that turns on the moment it’s opened. Jobs also confirmed the consumer electronics company’s foray into online movie rentals, revealing an alliance with all six major movie studios to offer films over high-speed Internet connections within 30 days after they’re released on DVD. Always a showman, Jobs unwound the string on a standard-sized manila office envelope and slid out the ultra-thin MacBook Air notebook computer to coos and peals of laughter from fans at the conference. At its beefiest, the new computer is 0.76 inches thick; at its thinnest, it’s 0.16 inches, he said. It comes standard with an 80-gigabyte hard drive, with the option of a 64GB flash-based solid state drive as an upgrade. The machine doesn’t come with a built-in optical drive for reading CDs and DVDs, a feature Jobs says consumers won’t miss because they can download movies and music over the Internet and access the optical drives on other PCs and Macs to install new software. They can buy an external drive, however, that will retail for . Trading in Apple stock was heavy Tuesday, the first day of the Macworld Conference & Expo in San Francisco. It fell 5.52 percent to 8.91 at midday. The new laptop, which has a 13.3-inch screen and full-sized laptop keyboard, will cost 99 when it goes on sale in two …

Answer by Larry W
One of the best ways to get that info is to pay a visit to the Chamber of Commerce. They not only know about the businesses there, they probably know most of the people that run them. Another great way to get information is to post your request in the City’s local paper under “Looking for Full Time Customer Service Position.” You’d be surprised how many people read the local paper, watching for the things they need. I’ve also found that the local Churches are always willing to help in any way they can, and they probably know more towns people than anyone else. Above all, “Ask questions, Get answers.” The more you ask, the better your chances are of getting the solution you need. I have no doubt that you’ll do very well. Once they get to see those wonderful qualities that you have, they’ll realize how much you’d contribute to the success of their business. Larry.
