The key point of the presentation is that short term plans and commitments won’t be helpful in long term digital preservation. It highlights that a proper ecosystem needs to be created with minimum investment and scalable infrastructure (birth), continuously evolving best practices, training for archivists and curators (parenting), periodic auditing, upgradation of infrastructure and knowledge (nurturing) and wealth creation by offering value added services and access to information rich archives (sustenance). This paper was presented during the Indo-US Workshop on International Trends in Digital Preservation, March 24-25, 2009, Pune, India.

There is very little information out there on how a U.S. citizen can obtain a job and an employment visa to work in India. I’m interested in, among other things, working as a voice/accent/soft skills trainer for BPO companies. Should I just send my resume around and try to make some contacts, or are there some tricks to the trade? Are there any decent websites on the topic?

I have a B.Sc. degree in pure science(Physics,Chemistry & Maths). Due to family and social problems i couldn’t make a career. I don’t like sales or BPO and call center jobs. Also my spoken English in poor and not fluent. I want to do some decent office or technical job. Should i go for some courses like engineering or Computer Science /Application courses ?
Please guide me.

Yes, you can find a career at the age of 34. Not a problem. You have a degree in an area that could lead to so many jobs. Go to a chemical company and apply. There’s one in Philadelphia. They make adhesives. There are management jobs, desk jobs, research jobs and others.
Go to an employment agency. They will steer you in the right direction. More classes will always lead to more opportunity but you don’t know for sure if you need more school. You have a degree so get a job and then decide if you want to go further.
Broken English is not a problem. Take an English course at the local community college or hire someone to help you or hand write sentence after sentence after sentence out of any book at the libreary and you will learn quite a bit or go to the local church and get involved with them and you will soon be speaking fluent English.
You have a degree. Use it and then decide on your next step.
