Question by Derek C: What should I do to increase the eventual sale price of my small software business (5 years out)?
I have a small one person software business which I would like to build value in over the next 5 years. I am the sole employee, and I have 4 software products (2 for consumers, and 2 for business). I would like to take steps over the next 5 years to increase the value of the business for others so that I might sell the company. What steps should I be taking to make it worth more than one person (since I will be “retiring”)?

Obviously, the best way to increase the value is to increase the sales and exposure.
There are a number of ways to take it to market, with affiliate marketing being an excellent way.
Might I suggest checking this company out:

With “Affiliate Marketing”, you don’t pay a dime in commission unless there’s a sale for it. That way you can get exposure on a large number of websites.
Why not email me your link, and I’ll post it on my site for you?

no most call centers do not increase either, it is just the shotty fly by night compaies that have a tendence to increase morbidity, as they are looking for the people that will say anything to close the deal.

Question by DataEntryIndia: How Can i Increase my Outsourcing Business? Need Help?
I am running a data entry company here in India. http://www.dataentryatindia.com Right now I have very few clients. Any Idea How can I increase my clients from USA who can supply us their back office operation work. I’ve giving you a link to one company that is rather large but based in Bangalore, Accenture. They have offices all over the US and the link is to a contact form, they can help answer your questions.
The other is to an organization with 100+ outsourcing companies. I believe you can contact someone in one of their PR or Client Services department that can help you determine the best way to get clients.
Good fortune.

Too much cash increase WACC, reduce company value. why do software companies like SAP have so much cash on b/s

Question by Jeanie: Too much cash increase WACC, reduce company value. why do software companies like SAP have so much cash on b/s
I am trying to understand why SAP, Microsoft and other software companies sit on a pile of cash.

Too much cash will more than likely decrease WACC because it increases the quick/current ratio thus making the firm more able to make its short-term debt payments (primary factor in firm solvency). This decreases the cost of debt capital and reduces WACC as a whole.
In general, firms create value for the shareholder by undertaking positive NPV projects. Since the cash flows are discounted by the WACC (assuming the project is as risky as the firm), it opens up more options for the company if they have a lower cost of capital hurdle rate. In addition, it enables a company to accept a negative NPV project without endangering the future of the company. They would do this for the sake of obtaining a strategic advantage in a market or for a real option on another project in the future. The best example I can think of for this is the Xbox. The platform itself is a negative NPV project (and would be an even lower NPV if MSFT couldn’t discount it at a lower WACC because of the cash it uses to back the system). But through licensing fees, the introduction of the Xbox360, Xbox live subscription services, and any other yet to be exposed real options, the project has arguably increased the value of the firm.

Question by New Boy: I have completed bachelor in mechanical engineering. What should I do next to increase my profile?
I am not confident of getting a job with my degree, because my grades are poor. Please suggest me all the extra short courses that is must for a Mechanical Engineer to get a job in Software Company. What is the current trend in Software Firm these days, what languages and software do they wish the engineers should know?

Answer by Andrew D
In engineering, the best thing you could do is gain experience. Join a open source project, the higher profile the better. Learn whatever language necessary for that project. Python is MITs language to start with, so that may be a great starting point. C/C++, Java, seem to be good, Ruby maybe. Get experience and get certifications in these programming languages. Software companies find all of this very attractive in hiring candidates.

The 1200% Increase in my Prescription Drug Costs
Posted by PuneStuff in Pune Videos on July 22nd, 2011
In which Hank is pissed off because the price of his prescription drugs went up 1200% in one month. So he asks nerdfighteria to write a nice letter to Roger Boissonneault at rboissonneault@wcrx.com. If you could ask him why the price went up so much, why the program expired four months early, and why no effort was made to contact my doctor about these dramatic changes, that would be fantastic. Also, whatever else you want to say. I feel a little bit like this was a heroin deal “first time’s free” kind of thing. Apparently, drug companies have the same marketing strategies as drug dealers…nice to know they’re in such good company.
