This question is for a business person to answer. It is for my business class.

I am an IT professional, and as such, a good share of the things I’m expected to do at my job, I’m expected to already know.

Almost everywhere that I’ve worked however, it’s usually up to me, the person’s boss, a co-worker who has a similar job, or the person who is being replaced to cover training necessary for any technology training. If a new piece of software is being rolled out that nobody (or very few people) in the company is familiar with, we’ve also hired consultants (sometimes provided by the tech vendor) to come in and have a training session.

Q&A: Can a company enforce an Academic HARDWARE license like they can an Academic Software license?

Question by David: Can a company enforce an Academic HARDWARE license like they can an Academic Software license?
Can a company enforce an Academic HARDWARE license like they can an Academic Software license? Many companies offer EULAs (End User License Agreements) for discounted software for students that restrict it from being used “for profit” This ensures that businesses pay full price.

I noticed that WACOM sells a tablet at a discount to the Academic community but i’d like to get one for business use.

Its a moral/ethical thing.

So no they can’t enforce it – unless they ask you at the store to show a student card or something.

Why Don’t Other Tech Companies Make Both Hardware And Software Like Apple Did?

Question by RoystonChan: Why Don’t Other Tech Companies Make Both Hardware And Software Like Apple Did?
Why don’t companies such as microsoft, google, samsung, lenovo make both hardware and software for their computers like Apple? Why most companies only do one?

Best answer:

Answer by Kim
Because they’re quite different fields. If all your employees’ expertise is based around making software, starting to make hardware is no easy feat. The same is true vice versa. So it’s only natural that most companies only do one.

Apple is actually not that big on hardware. Apple’s part in Apple computers is primarily the visual design and the branding/advertisement, the actual hardware is provided by the same companies that make hardware for most other computers, like Intel.

Q&A: Does anyone know a PC hardware, software or peripherals company whose name started with “Y” and is now defunct?

Question by Hilary M: Does anyone know a PC hardware, software or peripherals company whose name started with “Y” and is now defunct?
I’m looking for any and all companies – that start with the letter “Y” and in any way related to personal computer hardware, software, or peripherals – that has gone out of business, or been acquired by a company that has gone out of business. Wikipedia has a great list but no “Y” companies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Defunct_software_companies)

Best answer:

Answer by expletive_xom
just go with a conglomerate (they do everything) like Yamaha. that would be more peripherals, but they make some of their own semi-conductors and processors.

oops you wanted defunct. my bad.
yahoo is close to being defunct. does that count? probably not.

Some more info about the kind of business, the size of the business and whether this is an offline business coming online or strictly an online business, would help.

1. The very first thing one needs is the right keywords which means knowing how to research keywords and competition. I highly recommend Market Samurai. Having used most of the research tools out there, I think it is by far the best. A bit of a learning curve but it comes with some great training.

2. For most businesses, WordPress is the most useful way to do a website. This is because it’s easy to optimize for the search engines, there are lots of plugins to add functionality and it’s easy for anyone designated by your organization, to update (even you :-) )

3. You should have an email broadcast system so you can build a list and stay in touch regularly. Most internet marketers are recommending Aweber or Infusionsoft. Both have great deliverability rates. The interface at AWeber is old, clunky and it often doesn’t work (at least that’s been my experience), but they do get the mail through. Infusionsoft is expensive so unless you have a large and very successful online business it’s probably prohibitively expensive. Recently I switched from AWeber to MailChimp. It’s really too early to recommend them (I don’t even have all my lists moved yet) but so far I’ve been very impressed. The only thing I don’t like is that they don’t have any phone support but they do have a live chat that works pretty well.

4. If you’re selling your own products and services, you will also need a shopping cart/payment processor. The easiest is PayPal and for the most part it works really well. It is more expensive once you’re doing $ 2000+/month but it’s easy to use. You can’t do coupons or set up affiliate programs with PayPal. If you want those features you’ll either need another shopping cart or specific software. I haven’t found a shopping cart I really love. I would avoid 1ShoppingCart because they have the worst customer service on the planet. Currently I’m using E-Junkie but find it clunky and confusing at times. Sorry I don’t have a better solution on this one.

As for hardware, you probably have it already. Again this depends on the size of your business and the nature of your business, but as long as you have a relatively new computer (no more than 2 years old max) and a high speed internet connection, you should be good to go.

That’s the stuff you need. There are plenty of other things that can make it easier and others things you may need because of the business you’re in, but I could run my business with exactly what I’ve listed here.

And remember, the most important piece is to do your market research before you invest in anything else. It will save you a whole lot of time, energy and money.

Hardware synths Vs Software synths VST for making beats

Hardware synths Vs Software synths VST for makeing beats This is for my beginners or someone who might be thinking about switching for one to the other. Both hardware synths and VSTs have advantages and disadvantages. Ultimately different kinds of personalities will want to use more of one then the other. To give you a straight anwser which is better. Neither one! They both sound good. You can make hits using both. So why do people always say one is better then the other? Its human nature for a person to say that what they use is the best. What they really mean is this is the best for me or better yet this is the best I can afford. When I first started “2002″ everybody was talking bout the hardware workstations and how you had to have them. I shortly found that wasn’t true. At the time VST were not the best sounding but, since I was just starting out it was fine for me. As time VSTs was getting better and better. People started peeping it out. Now its like the standard. People ask me what VSTs I use not even for a second thinking I might be using a workstation. The point is since eveyone is using the VSTs now thats what they are going to tell you to use. Just like back when I started everyone was on the workstations such as the Korg Trition. I say demo them both. When you do demo them. Ask yourself. Which is more fun. Cause if its not fun. Whats the point? Some people like the hands on control of the hardware synths and some people like how flexible the software is

Q&A: What all software and hardware do I need to host my own database driven website?

Question by Craig L: What all software and hardware do I need to host my own database driven website?
I have been using a hosting service for the past few years to host my company’s website. However the website has become very important in my company’s day to day operations. I would like to host my own site (creating an intranet to host this website). The website would still have to be assessable from the internet as well. I am looking to have a Windows hosting platform, a Mysql database, and php as well. Since I have never ventured in to the hosting I am not real sure what all it would take. How many servers, what operating systems on them. I do not think I will need a faster internet connection then my current DSL because there will be only a couple of people to sign on the website through the internet a week and it is highly unlikely they will be on it at the same time. I am not interested in email for this site at this time either. Any suggestion to get me started? Thanks.

You’ll need your own server, may i suggest the xserve from apple. Many built ins to help you get started. If you have the hardware you will probably need a sql server programmer or a coldfusion developer. Call a web design company and ask what they can do.
