Need open-source or cheap pension fund administration software for medium size business?

Question by jkurz2008: Need open-source or cheap pension fund administration software for medium size business?
We have a definied contribution pension plan at my medium-size company. The contibutions are being added to a fund. Then employees can take loans from the fund. It hasn’t been administered well, or seperately, and now I’m trying to clean things up.
Does anyone know of a decent fund administration program I can use to keep track of each employees account accurately? Open source or cheap is ideal. Don’t have much of a budget. We’ve been trying to use Excel but it’s more than a bit of a mess.

Try using Access instead of Excel since you probably already have that. Access is designed more towards “keeping track” of people and things than Excel is.
If you don’t have MS Office Suite and only have Excel (highly doubtful), but if that is the case you can get Open Office for free here:
http://www.openoffice.org/
OO is the Open Source ‘equivalent’ to MS Office. It will run on any platform (E.G.: Windows, Mac, Linux) and will allow you to work with documents that you already have that have been written with MS Office. More information can be gleaned from the OO Website.
Another Open Source program that you may find useful is GNUcash. Get that here:
http://www.gnucash.org/
You can find more Open Source software that you may find useful here:
http://sourceforge.net/
I hope this helps. Good Luck!

Is it legal for private companies to fund public projects?

Question by wicht_dan: Is it legal for private companies to fund public projects?
In other words, can locally-based companies finance something that has been cut for budgetary reasons such as street improvement within their community without running afoul of the law? I am from Minnesota, a state where local government aid has been cut by Governor Pawlenty.
Best answer:
Answer by Actions have consequences
Sure, if a private company wants to fund public infrastructure, I can see no reason why the government would turn them down. They do need government permission to do any work on public land, and all assets would remain the property of the government.
I have NO idea why you think any company would DO any of this, of course.

Is it wise to invest in different mutual fund companies or just one?

Question by ratmforever: Is it wise to invest in different mutual fund companies or just one?
Is it wise to invest in different mutual fund companies or just one company for maximum returns? My reason is that in case Company A fails, I still have a backup with other companies.
What is your opinion on this, will it matter if I invest in different companies? What are the chances that a mutual fund company will actually fail/close?
About diversification: isn’t mutual funds already in itself diversification?

Pending Employee Provident fund in India?
Posted by PuneStuff in Pune Stuff Questions & Answers on April 6th, 2010
I was working in a private organization in Pune, India. After I left it last year, I was asked to fill in the SSN form, which I promptly filled and returned to my ex-employer.
It has been more than 3 months since I have got the information from my ex-employer that my file has been processed, but I do not see any money deposited in my account.
Please tell me how do I know my claim status?
I am currently out of India, so I even don’t know how I can knock on the desks of these Indian govt babus
Please help. Thanks in advance.
