Why do even entry-level jobs, low-paying, minimum-wage jobs want you or expect you to have Experience?

Question by PlayerHater8806: Why do even entry-level jobs, low-paying, minimum-wage jobs want you or expect you to have Experience?
How does anyone expect to gain, get job experience if nobody will give them a chance? That is part of all aspects of life literally, nobody is born with experience, there is always a first time for everything, i’m talking entry-level jobs, customer service jobs, retail jobs, fast-food places, etc. Examples such as Movie Theaters, McDonalds, Burger King, In-N-Out, Carl’s Jr., Grocery Stores, Clothing Stores, Bookstores, Home-Depot, Lowe’s, Wal-Mart, Target, etc.
Seriously it is not fair at all, well i learned a long time ago that life is not fair but this is one of the things i hate the most, because nobody is born with experience, how do you get experience if nobody will give you a chance? I hate having to take up Volunteering because they do not pay you there, but I do know that Volunteering looks very good, positive on a person’s application, resume, so i guess i have no choice.
It really angers me, pisses me off, makes me frustrated, and i don’t want to go back to school, college, i only have a high school diploma because i want to get paid, i don’t want to have to rely on my parents for money, i want to have a life again, have something to do to keep me out of the house.
I have had 4 jobs Interviews so far this new year starting last January, at Home Depot, OSH, Discovery Science Center Museum in Orange County, Southern California, and Target, where I used to work, i had a seasonal job there last Fall for almost 2 months, it was my first ever retail job, cashier job, they hired me but i was laid off, let go along with other seasonal workers, employees, i don’t get why i did not get rehired at Target, well the Interview I had recently was at a Different Target location, one where I did not previously work.

They prefer people with experience because training people to do a job costs the employer money. Not only does he lose the full value of what he pays you until you are trained but he also loses at least part of the value of what he pays the person who has to train you. If you are looking for a job and have no experience try to dress appropriatley and well groomed when you apply and appear eager to go to work.

How do you get job experience when even entry-level jobs, minimum-wage paying jobs won’t hire you? how can I?

Question by : How do you get job experience when even entry-level jobs, minimum-wage paying jobs won’t hire you? how can I?
Are there any volunteer opportunities, volunteer work that can train you, give you experience for getting hired for a Retail Job, Fast-Food Job, Customer-Service Job?

Because i’ve been applying for Entry-Level jobs, places such as Walmart, Target, Home-Depot, OSH, Lowe’s, Best-Buy, and even Grocery Stores, Movie Theaters, Fast-Food Places, overall, Entry-Level, Minimum-Wage, Customer-Service, Retail, Fast-Food jobs.
Yet they expect, or want a year or more of work experience just for a job position such as Bagging Groceries, Stocking Merchandise in a Retail store, being a Ticket Usher at a Movie Theater, being a Cashier-Person, so it’s like as if Entry-Level jobs don’t exist anymore.

You need to either volunteer or do an internship or lie and say that you have worked somewhere and have a friend, family friend be your “professional reference”.

Q&A: How do you get job experience when even entry-level service jobs expect, want you to have experience?

Question by : How do you get job experience when even entry-level service jobs expect, want you to have experience?
I’m talking about minimum-wage, entry-level service jobs in retail, fast-food, customer-service jobs, such as at Grocery Stores, McDonald’s, Walmart, Target, Home-Depot, Walgreens, Kohl’s, etc.

Many people say volunteering, but are there any specific type of Volunteer work, opportunities in which you can gain or learn skills, experience for trying to get a job in retail, fast-food, customer-service, entry-level jobs?

Because there is way too much damn competition in this job market now, the competition is at an all-time high, has been since the recession started, since this economy became crap like it still is today.
because whenever i ask people for advice on how to get out of the Catch-22 regarding job experience, people say to set your sights lower, lower your standards, start at the bottom, well obviously i have been applying at those type of jobs but i am unable to get hired at them still, i’ve been applying at Grocery Stores, fast-food places such as McDonald’s, Burger King, In-N-Out, Carl’s Jr., etc.
Retailers such as Walmart, Target, Kohl’s, JC Penny, Macy’s, SEARS, Kohl’s, other retail clothing stores, and also even Home-Depot, Lowe’s, OSH, Restaurant jobs, Movie Theater jobs, i’ve been applying at all these type of places, i’ve gotten 10 job interviews the past 6 or 7 months at these type of places but i’m still getting rejected, turned down, also, i’m 24 years old and i don’t have a college-degree yet.

Left the company even before starting work?

Question by Ace B: Left the company even before starting work?
hi,
I joined a bpo company hoping that i would stay there for a long time. But unfortunately due to a family emergence i had to leave the job.

the thing is,after getting selected i only attended the induction classes for the first two days only. and on the the third day i am supposed to report to work, but i didnt because of my family emergencie. so technically i did not work at all nor did i undergo any type of training. i just attended the induction class along with many people belonging to different departments. I did not do any official work at all.
Because of my family problem reason
i left the job [which i didnt even start to work] and I am not planning to serve the notice period of two months.

And now the company wants me to pay the notice period money to them.

my question is,

what will happen if I dont pay the notice period amount?

Best answer:

Answer by Piggiepants
I’m sure you must have signed a contract or employment letter. That is a a legally binding instrument, and you need to read it to find out what you agreed to pay if you didn’t serve a notice period.

Without a contract or your signature on any employment document, they cannot pursue you for the funds.

If you signed a contract stating you have to pay a breach of leave notice, then you have to pay it. If amiable terms fail, they can sue you, and then you’ll have to pay what you owe plus court taxes, lawyers, etc.
It’s better to just get rid of it.
Good luck.

How do you find an Entry level non experience needed job, when even simple jobs want you to have experience?

Question by bestos22: How do you find an Entry level non experience needed job, when even simple jobs want you to have experience?
I’m looking in craiglists. And all the jobs say you need to have superb communication skils and experience. I have none of that,
but i have computer, problem solving and that kind of creative skills. So the only missing thing is communication skills, and also what is missing is OPPORTUNITIES for Entry level. Everything you need years of experience or talking..

So how do i get a job? I’m 27 by the way, kicked from last job last year because of bad health. And by the way Temp agencies don’t have faith on me even if i tell them i can try Reception, customer service jobs.

Sometimes you just have to be creative. For example, I wanted to get into pharmaceutical sales, but they all require at least a couple years experience. It drove me crazy because how are you supposed to get your foot in the door??? Well, I took a pharmaceutical sales course, and I did a preceptorship (followed a doctor around for a day) and wrote up a report to take to an interview, and I asked another rep I knew to let me follow her around for the day. In the meantime, I got a job in retail sales – which is not the same as outside sales, but I wanted to get ANY kind of experience under my belt.

It took dedication and years of persistance of working hard, but eventually it paid off and I was offered a job in promotional merchandise sales. A different industry, but still in the sales direction.

Go to Microsoft.com and check out their resume templates to get some ideas to spruce up your resume. Then blanket your resume around town – even if they are not hiring, ask them to keep your resume on file for future positions. Thank them for keeping you in mind. Put your resume on CareerBuilders.com and Monster.com, etc.

Determination and a little creativity will get you the right job in the end! :)

Why do some companies refuse to help their customers even after the customer complained to the news?

Question by Yahoo Man: Why do some companies refuse to help their customers even after the customer complained to the news?
For example, the news reporter says, “Mary bought a steam carpet cleaner from the company, but it had a faulty wire inside of it and it didn’t work. So, she returned it to the company but waited months to get her money back and as of now, she is still waiting. I knocked on their office door, someone answered only to slam the door in my face. I tried calling them but nobody returned my calls.” Why are those companies unwilling to help?

Can you work as a game developer/programmer even if you didn’t study a career in software engineering?

Question by laser_vamp: Can you work as a game developer/programmer even if you didn’t study a career in software engineering?
Do game companies care if you studied a career in software engineering or something similar when applying for a job or is there a way for someone who didn’t study this to work there?
If so, what would this person need in order to be considered?

Best answer:

Answer by Rich Z
I think they want someone who already has the programming skills. I don’t think they care how you got them.

If people start driving less and conserve gas, will gas companies cut production even more to drive up prices?

Question by casey: If people start driving less and conserve gas, will gas companies cut production even more to drive up prices?
I know people who work at refineries and no, production is not full throttle as some would like for you to believe. There is little to no competition among oil companies, if you look at the difference in price at the pumps it is only a cent or two. What did congress find the other day when they questioned the oil companies? Are we being seriously screwed?

Best answer:

Answer by Scott H
Bingo! They will manipulate the supply by cutting production until it balances with demand. Prices will remain at or near what they are now. The oil companies are not going to lose money and see their stock prices tank.

What do you think? Answer below!
