Question by rishman_316: Do computer programer/software engg use these topics in practical job:DiscreteMaths,DataStructure,Probability?
I’ve just finished my graduation in Maths from DU. I’m now really confused whether I should go for MCA or not. See, in class 12, I was exceptionally good in computer programming (we had C++ then) and was sure I wanted to take that up as a career. But, the engineering courses were extremely theory based and had a variety of other subjects like Digital Design, Probability and Statistical Methods, Discrete Mathematics Mathematical Foundations of computer Science, and core programming formed only 5 % of the syllabus. Thus I decided to do Maths from D.U. It is now time for me to choose a career and I don’t want to let my talent for programming go waste. Please tell me if the above topics which I found too theoretical and disliked are of any importance to computer programers or software engineers. Also, what exactly does a programmer/software engineer do once he joins a company. Is his job only converting things into source code? Please help me out as Im terribly puzzled..

You could just be a programmer but that would mean having software engineers telling you what to program and how to do it. If you understood those concepts you would know how to program something. The things you do in class are really simple. In a real application, things become very complex very quickly.

Basically “Domicile Certificate” is the proof of your residence status in any state of India. The regional colleges, universities, engineering and medical colleges reserves the quota for regional students of that particular state. So in this case if you want to take advantage of being a domicile of Maharashtra state then you need to get the “Domicile Certificate” from your regional municipal commissioner office.
It’s not an issue with you to get this certificate because you are living since last 11 years in pune. Might be you have to invest small amount of money but it will be OK for you if your purpose gets resolved.
Apart from that i wants to share a worthwhile news source regarding professional/ technical college/university admission news website http://rozgarpatrika.com/admissions

Electrical Engg. & Computer Science undergraduate course at MIT same as B.Tech in Computer Engineering, India?

Question by Ashamaan ARJ: Electrical Engg. & Computer Science undergraduate course at MIT same as B.Tech in Computer Engineering, India?
I would like to study at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. I am currently doing my Diploma in Computer Engineering in Pune, India. I was wondering if the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science undergraduate course offered at MIT similar to a Bachelor in Technology Degree ( in Computer Science and Engineering) that one does in India. Some of the topics (syllabus) seems to be the same. But I am not sure. Would like expert advice.

Indian B.Tech – http://www.cse.iitb.ac.in/page121
WAIT…B.Tech wont qualify me for an Undergrad Course? I thought undergrad course is the Equivalent of a Degree there? I m doing my Diploma. Haven’t gotten into B.Tech yet.

They are not the same at all! MIT is the world’s most competitive university, and it attracts absolute geniuses from around the world. B tech might not even qualify you to apply for admission as an undergrad. Indian engineering is actually some of the world’s worst, which is why buildings constructed for World Cup were the joke heard round the world. If MIT wanted you, they would come & recruit you. Have you won any international competitions in math, etc? That’s what MIT looks for.
