How do i motivate my employees to perform better? What are some incentives for the improvement?

Question by The Delivery Doctor: How do i motivate my employees to perform better? What are some incentives for the improvement?
Some of my team members are struggling with meeting company metrics in performance. I work in a call center and we measure performance thru metrics (average handling time, talk time, and call work). I need to find some ways to inspire my employees to perform better. I also need ways to promote contests to build an awareness on teamwork. Once the performance has improved, I need to show ways to reward the agents. What do employees want as a reward(no monies), that would excite them enough to wanna peform better? If performance is not improved, the agents will be placed on disclipinary actions and this could hurt the efforts. I would like to avoid this if possible.

You sound like a great manager, who really cares about his/her people. Kudos!

As far as motivation goes, studies these days favor non-money rewards anyway. More break time, first choice of vacation days, cubicle by the window, casual attire days, etc. would be good.

What is the best payroll software for a company with about 15 employees?

Question by CGH: What is the best payroll software for a company with about 15 employees?
What is user friendly, can be used with duplicate business checks/stubs attached and a non computer expert like myself could learn fairly quickly? We are currently handwriting all payroll, it is a very time consuming task. I’m looking for a way to set up a simple system where I simply plug in the weekly info and the software does the calculating. It’s very important that I can use this program in conjunction with the specific type business duplicate/top stub attached checks we use. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

Have you tried asking your local bank? I know Bank of America has online Payroll where you plug in the numbers and they do it for you.

The new owners have the option to change out employees or keep some of the old. Usually old management goes. Sometimes if an employee goes there’s some kind of buyout or separation package.

How do I submit resumes to companies that may not be looking for employees at this time?

Question by rrichards2k3: How do I submit resumes to companies that may not be looking for employees at this time?
I am trying to find a job an I know of a few buildings that have various kinds of customer service, inbound and outbound telemarketing jobs. Should I have a cover letter for each one? Should I have copies of resumes with different objectives on each? Should I leave the resume with the receptionist or should I try to leave with an HR manager? I just want to take some initiative versus trying to look through the want ads.

Answer by pnk517
I applaud your efforts!! Most companies are always looking for quality employees to hire, and few of them actually advertise any positions.

First off, research the company on the internet. This will let you know what that particular company is looking for, and allow you to taylor your resume and cover letter to reflect that. I’m not saying to lie on your resume!!! Just taylor your accomplishments to match what the company is looking for.

You have a couple of options that you can do to get your resume seen.

As you mentioned, you can walk it down in person. Try to get the name of the HR person prior to going in. If you can schedule an appointment, or at the very least walk in with the person’s name, then you have a better chance.

The other is to go to the company website. Most major companies have a link that will allow you to submit your resume and any attachments (cover letter, letters of recommendation, etc).

Good Luck!!

When a company goes public do they offer employees stock?

Question by matt: When a company goes public do they offer employees stock?
Is this normal for companies to do? Or does it depend on the company?

Best answer:

Answer by Ed Atun
It would not be expected. The shares are offered to the public. It is a bit of a gamble since the company doesn’t know if the sale will be successful or not. If not, the investment bank agrees to buy all the shares. The investment bank would not be too happy if many employees were getting guaranteed stock.

The shares can be awarded as bonuses.

Q&A: What is a good website/software to do background checks on potential employees?

Question by P.P.: What is a good website/software to do background checks on potential employees?
This is for a small business. Not looking for a site that says you can buy a membership for a year of unlimited searches to find out your membership fee is a “balance” to deduct from to do real background searches. The “unlimited” searches are for name and phone numbers. Worthless. (CIS Worldwide – boo!).

Best answer:

Answer by intheleast
This is a professional company that our corporation has used for several years. They provide top notch service and accurate results (not like those $ 49/year membership sites that usually have inaccurate and outdated information).

One thing that distinguishes them from the scams on the Internet is that you must have the applicant’s signed permission before they will provide you with any information.

I don’t know what they charge for businesses. You can also pay to get a copy of your own background information and that’s about thirty bucks.
