Why do many East Asian men (India, Pakistan) apply for low paying customer service jobs & not heavy labor?

Question by mickeyaaaa: Why do many East Asian men (India, Pakistan) apply for low paying customer service jobs & not heavy labor?
This is not a question to be racist at all: I am a hiring manager in Canada and have noticed a real pattern: Indian & Pakistani men applying for lower paying customer service/desk jobs, and rarely applying for harder labor (furniture delivery) jobs. Are Indian/Pakistani men weaker than most? I doubt that…is it a cultural thing? Religious? Do they find sweating/hard labor distasteful? I would give anything to do my job and still be able to get some hard work/exercise in – sitting at a desk sucks!

They aren’t East Asians, they are South Asians. east Asians are Chinese, Mongolians, Japanese, and Koreans.

But yes if you work for some Indian or Chinese bosses, they do work you like hell and give low wages.

How much should I ask for a Customer service job @ IBM in Brno?

Question by DarkChoco: How much should I ask for a Customer service job @ IBM in Brno?
I`ve been contacted by a recruiting company regarding a job – Help desk with French language – in Brno. How are these jobs paid – any idea? They mentioned around EUR 800 but I have a feeling that it is better than that. Besides – it`s not worth the relocation for the same amount of money that I make at my current job.
Does anyone work there? How are the wages, generally speaking?
Any suggestions are welcome!

Is there any home based customer service job hiring Filipinos?

Question by shagami: Is there any home based customer service job hiring Filipinos?
I am a Technical Support Representative in one of the call centers here in the Philippines. And I want to stay at home to be able to take care of my kids. I’ve been constantly searching in the internet about home based jobs and I really can’t find one for Filipinos. Please help.

I don’t think this is an issue of nationality. Call centers are efficient when people are sitting, logged into the system, answering calls. Generally that means in a call center. Occasionally, an employer will allow you to work in a “virtual” call center, logged into the system remotely and taking calls remotely. But, no employer is going to let you work from home when your stated purpose is to take care of your kids.

If you want hand on and not an office job, try being a customer service manager at Wal-Mart or something. It’s hands on and no office!

What are some NO EXPERIENCE customer service jobs that someone can get into in Phoenix, AZ?

Question by Butterfly: What are some NO EXPERIENCE customer service jobs that someone can get into in Phoenix, AZ?
I was wondering if there are any customer service jobs in Phoenix,AZ that require no prior experience what so ever. If someone has a solid work history in security and wants to get into another field. Me and my friend have been looking around for an entry level customer service job, but most places turn my friend down because he has no customer service experience. He has a basic knowledge of computers, but his skills are very minimal. Most employers are very strict on applicants that have no prior office experience and if there is any way that someone can get experience what job would that be that would at least pay $ 10.00/hr or more??

I have been with Home Depot for more than 11 yrs. Getting a job in the electrical dept might solve the problem. Customer service is the primary job, and I have noticed that electronics specialists are in demand. Good luck!

Q&A: Non customer service jobs I can do?

Question by : Non customer service jobs I can do?
I have worked either as a cashier or hotel clerk since I graduated high school and I’m sick of dealing in customer service, it’s ill fitting for me. I don’t mind people, I’m not antisocial, it’s just customer service I hate. What are non customer service job ideas you can give me, other than factory work? Or maybe jobs with a little bit customer service tasks but only a little bit? Keep in mind I don’t have a college degree, but I do have some college experience, and I’m looking for something soon I can do, not something that requires a bachelors or something similar. Thanks
Something that requires a little bit of schooling or self-taught skills is ok

Job hunting can be a difficult job in itself, especially if you’re not used to it. I was having a hard time with my job hunting in recent times until I stumbled upon the site in the box below website which has some great guidance for job searchers. After following their techniques for a month or so I scored myself a great job.

Why do all Customer Service jobs Suck?

Question by Peter Addison: Why do all Customer Service jobs Suck?
Before responding with nasty remarks, please read my entire question.

I am 30 years old. I work as a Tour Guide in a big children’s museum. I have been doing this for over 6 years now. Before I worked here I was working over counter jobs, cashier, food industry, you name it. I’m always at the Entry Level position! I never move up. I have collegues that came in as Tour Guides that have since moved up to be supervisors and managers, and they’ve been there less then a year! I’ve been there 6 years and am still stuck doing the same stuff! I have good attendance and do my job, but apparently since this is micro-management I’m expected to “always be doing better” then I actually am. My complaints are:

1) Why are all customer service jobs the SAME? They all basically want you to smile, make the customer first, and act as if you’re goal in life is to serve others. All the handbooks we get act as if they’re doing something amazing- yet its all the same! Why is this? I don’t get it at all. “The customer is always right”, “Its your job to make the customer smile”, and bullshit like that.

2) Why do the supervisors never say we’re doing a good job. All our meetings are about improvement. They’re never about what we’re doing right. No wonder morale is so bad. And its not just this job. EVERY ******* customer service job I’ve had has had the same management strategy- “You do fine, but do more.” Really? Come on! It gets very tiring and very annoying.

3) Why am I stuck doing the same customer service stuff? I have a degree in Film and Screenwriting. its just I live in the Mid-west, not a good place to have a career in media. But with all my writing experience, I’m still stuck in entry-level positions. And please don’t tell me I should just suck it up- I’ve been doing this over 10 years. After a while, it’s psychologically damaging.

Please respond, but DON’T respond with dumb stuff like “If you hate it so much, quit”. That’s not what I’m trying to get. The economy is bad now, this is all I can get. I want answers to what I asked. And no fake scam ads for jobs either.
