why is outsourcing jobs to other countries allowed, especially when our country needs jobs for our own people?

Question by jamie: why is outsourcing jobs to other countries allowed, especially when our country needs jobs for our own people?
Every time I call any 1800 number for customer service its someone I have trouble understanding, usually from the Philippines or India. Corporations in America need to keep jobs in the U.S, if something doesn’t happen we will be a 3rd world country before you know it, if were not already.

There are basically NINE ways that you can get a visa to live and work in the US:

(1) Marriage (or engagement in anticipation of marriage) to a US citizen.

(2) You have skills that are in short supply in the US e.g. scientific or medical training. A degree is normally a must. Or you have superior specialist skills with at least 12 years experience. (H visas)

(3) You have an Employer who is willing to transfer you – but even the employer has to make a good case for you – so you have to be a manager unless you fall under category (2) above.(L visas)

(4) You may get a Green card in the diversity lottery (UK citizens, except N.Ireland, are not generally eligible unless you, your spouse or parents were born abroad or held a different citizenship.

(5)You own or buy business (does not get you permanent resident status i.e. no green card)You must be a national of a qualifying Treaty countries. The business must have a minimum value of around $ 150k (more the better) bearing in mind you will need somewhere to live and with any startup business you will need at least 2 years living money as back up. So a figure of $ 350k would be a nearer minimum (E-2 visas)

(6)You are an “investor” i.e. you have at least US $ 1m in assets to bring with you. half of that in a few areas. And your background will be investigated to the hilt. (EB-5 visas)

(7)You have a close relative (mother, father, brother, sister and no further) who is an US citizen who would sponsor you, approx time this take 2-12 years?

(8.The R1 visa is available to foreign members of religious denominations, having bona fide non-profit religious organizations in the U.S., for entering the U.S. to carry on the activities of a minister or religious worker as a profession, occupation or vocation

(9)THE UNUSUAL You are in a position to claim refugee status/political asylum. or You get a member of Congress to sponsor a private bill with legislation that applies just to you.
The S visa issued to persons who assist US law enforcement to investigate and prosecute crimes and terrorist activities such as money laundering and organized crime

Recruitment agent will not take you seriously if you are not already in the US. Writing for jobs is really a waste of time; likewise US employers have no idea what foreign qualification are or mean (except Degrees) it may pay you to get your qualification translated into a US equivalent, there are Companies that do this (www.wes.org) ..
But if you are getting a visa under (2) above then you need a job offer before you can get the visa. Your Employer will be your sponsor this will cost them upward of $ 5k. So you can see you have to be offering something really special to get considered They may also have to prove to the Dept of labor that there is no American who can do the job if the position is to be permanent ©

Sandeep ji, First thing is became optimistic instead of pessimist. India is developing for sure earlier those towns and cities were also not having all this atleast now they are getting there. It is matter of time and matter of efforts from people like you when development will arrive in this left over places.

However we agree with you that development in not even across places and there is definately some places and areas which are getting more benefit from other.

Now coming to your question – what you can do in this situation considering restricted means you have. Ok let me tell you there is always a first step to take and first step will hardly sufficient to reach to success but it is necessary to reach to success.

Some of the tasks which can make difference:
- Adopt one or two poor/ orphan children (do not frown on word adopt. Adoption does not mean taking them to your house as your son or daughter, it also mean take them as your brother and sisters for some specific purpose). Provide them help in their study i.e. get them admission in some school with assurance that you will take care of their studies after school. Teach them after school so that they can turn in bright student and can get scholarship to fund for their studies. This will start a chain reaction as these children will in turn take care of other students education as well as your other friends will get motivated to take similar stances. This will result in spreading education to less privelaged children and areas. Mind you education is best way of development.

- Study a lot yourself, start putting double the effort in developing you. You will say how that will benefit country. It will because if get to some height with such thinking about benefit of society and less privelaged area then you will certainly develop that once you have some mean. These means can come only when you develop yourself.

- Be a good responsible citizen. This will ensure that society itself will became more responsible and social resulting in less expenditure on that count and more on development.

- Volunteer more and more
This is way to contribute without money.

What Would it take for a Call center to retreat from a country, Is my job in danger?

Question by : What Would it take for a Call center to retreat from a country, Is my job in danger?
It has come to my attention that this Nicaraguan Government, the Sandista Government and even more specifically the Daniel Ortega government is getting increasingly authoritarian, I have read an article (http://www.miamiherald.com/2011/10/24/2470261/ortega-unchained-nicaragua-heads.html) that once Mr. Daniel wins that he will enforce his own diplomatic relations, economic model and will destroy the opposition.

I don’t know about that, but it seems realistic I am fearful for my job, which is in a call centre, I don’t think that this developing dictator will directly pose a threat to these BPO companies, but I do think that his policies, and increase instability politically and uncertainty will just scare them off.

Surprisingly this company have tax exemptions, and they have invested 15 million bucks here, plus they have cheap labor, but my fear is that the increasingly deteriorating relations between this country and the U.S will translate into the same thing with the call centres here.

Do you think it will happend?

Thank you for your opinion

Foreign-based corporations can list their shares on the NYSE if they adhere to certain Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) rules, known as listing standards.

Q&A: How do you feel when you call a company for customer service and the person answering is in another country?

Question by edaem: How do you feel when you call a company for customer service and the person answering is in another country?
I have a friend whose customer service job was outsourced to another country so whenever she needs to call customer service for phone, credit card, etc. she first asks what country they are in. If they are not in the USA, she asks to speak with an American or a supervisor. She gives them a really hard time. I dont like the outsourcing of jobs and my home has lost value as a result of a large computer company outsourcing many jobs to Asia so USA employees lost their homes or sold them below market. I retailiated by not buying their computers when I needed a new one even though theirs are much less expensive.
