Question by Zoe: What kind of computer do you think is best for a college student. What software should I get?
I’m a freshman and college and have been using the same laptop since 8th grade. I’m wanting a new one and am trying to decide on what to get. My mom said she’d get it for me for my birthday. I was thinking of getting the Mac Air because it’s so lightweight but all my software is for a PC. What kind of laptop do you have, what software is on it?

Well, I am just in my first year of university and for university I bought a mac book pro. I personally love it. It’s light, and the battery power is awesome. I would definitely recommend a mac.
I would also recommend checking to see if your college has an electronics/computer store. The university I go to has one, and I got an awesome deal. I got like a printer, paper, ipod touch, mac book, the microsoft software, and a few other things for only $ 1500.

Computer science refers to the study of computers and the science behind them. This is a growing job field and I am currently a student in it. If you are interested in it there are two major paths you can seek, the first being a programmer, and the other is in IT and networking. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. Programmers are higher paid out of college but the downside is programing can be off shored. Networkers start off lower payed but often find themselves in a management position in the long run.
Careers in networking include:
help desk support, pc technician, network administrator, network engineer.. and the list goes on.
Your best bet is to talk to a counselor at the school get some advice from them.

What your taking about is called Point of Sale software or POS software.
You get it by buying the software from the companies that sell it.
Intuit Small Business is an example:

POS systems can range from basic which would simply be software installed on a computer to systems that are more advanced – these would include a barcode scanner and might include connectivity to your home computer.
Here are some other examples:

http://posnation.com/retail_pos
Prices can range from as little as $ 1000 (maybe less) to over $ 20,0000.00
There isn’t enough space here to give you detailed info so your best bet is to contact a company that specializes in POS systems. Do some research first.

In terms of ease of use, features and expandability the Apple II was a major technological advancement over its predecessor, the Apple I, a limited-production bare circuit board computer for electronics hobbyists that pioneered many features that made the Apple II a commercial success. Introduced at the West Coast Computer Faire on April 16, 1977, the Apple II was among the first successful personal computers; it launched the Apple company into a successful business (and allowed several related companies to start). Throughout the years, a number of models were sold, with the most popular model remaining relatively little changed into the 1990s. It was first sold on June 10, 1977.[2][3] By the end of production in 1993, somewhere between five and six million Apple II series computers (including about 1.25 million Apple IIGS models) had been produced …
