Question by pipi: How do Strait times Index choose the 30 companies?
Hi,

Does any one know what the requirement for the companies to be in the list of Strait times index?

are they calculated by their market cap?

Best answer:

Answer by Sandy
The revamped Straits Times Index as well as the other 18 new indices of the FTSE ST Index Series went live on 10 January 2008.

The revamped STI comprises 30 blue-chip companies on the SGX mainboard, ranked by market capitalisation as of 31 August. The stocks have passed FTSE’s international methodology, particularly its free float and liquidity requirements. The 30 stocks in the new STI were selected according to the FTSE Group’s international method, including measuring a share’s daily average trading volume over the past 12 months.

From a tax standpoint, should I choose an LLC or Sole Proprietorship for the following business?

Question by a link to the past: From a tax standpoint, should I choose an LLC or Sole Proprietorship for the following business?
I’m looking to start a computer service business in South Carolina, and I’m on the fence between choosing an LLC vs. a Sole Proprietorship. What would be best from a tax standpoint?

I’ll initially be working for myself but might eventually hire employees.

This business will be my only source of income, and the main expenses will be advertising (~$ 2,000 – $ 10,000) and software purchases ($ 1,000). The business should bring in about $ 50k gross the first year.

I will initially be working with home computer owners, although I would like to expand to service other businesses once the company has gained a reputation.

If I’m leaving out important details, please ask and I’ll add them.

Thanks!

Q&A: How to choose the right Accounting Software for my company?

Question by mawila: How to choose the right Accounting Software for my company?
Hi, I’m not quite familiar with accountings. I am trying to acquire an acc software for my medium size company. What criteria should I look for? and any good recommendations and reviews to share?

Thanks a lot. :)

Best answer:

Answer by Elodie
Hi there,

Actually you have a lot of criteria to think about.

According to me, you have to decide :

- if you want a local or an online solution. Do you want to be able to access your solution only on your office computers or from anywhere ?
- if you want an open-source or a proprietary solution,
- if you want to pay a price per user or a price for the global solution? How many users do you have?
- which accounting modules are absolutely necessary to you,
- if you only need an accounting solution or if you would like an ERP which covers all your business needs (in order to link each entity of your organization as well as clients linked to invoices linked to emails exchanges with CRM, etc); …
Many questions has to be asked before finding the right solution. The software I usually recommend is TioLive. It integrates many modules to manage the business, it is online and for free.

Q&A: What happen if most of the students choose Business as their major?

Question by YANKEE: What happen if most of the students choose Business as their major?
My country is still poor and people are not happy and satisfy with the way they are living now. So most of highschool students like me want to become a rich business man or woman rather than other jobs without no clear reason or clear vision. So over 40% of the the students choose Business as their major every year. So what will happen?

Best answer:

Answer by Radioactive
It’s happening in the US aslo (perhaps not 40%).
They are not choosing degrees that are highly in demand that involve medicine, science, computers, engineering, etc.
Therefore business graduates are getting out of college and not finding jobs.

What title should I choose on a business card? Please respond if you’re a business owner or upper management?

Question by Daniel: What title should I choose on a business card? Please respond if you’re a business owner or upper management?
Not to snub anyone, I would just prefer input from people with experience in choosing a business card title.

I just started on my first business venture, so I don’t have a lot of knowledge in little things that they don’t mention in a business books.

I’m opening an upscale software developing company. What title should I have on my business card(s)? I’m leaning toward … “President and CEO”

Best answer:

Answer by Bruce
President and CEO would be a good title.

There is an argument for not putting a title on the card at all. Most people, when they have your card, want to talk with YOU, not the title..

Don’t forget to put something on the back, hours, a map, services offered, etc.

Choose The Web Hosting Company That Works For You

For more information please visit: www.myhostingpicks.com Do you know what “web hosting” refers to? Put simply, web hosting is providing a server that allows others to create their own website. If you want to learn how web hosting benefits you and your website, keep reading for solid advice about web hosting. Check out the track record of all the web hosts that you are considering purchasing from before you make your end decision. Some web hosting services will claim to do things that they cannot do! Research web hosts ahead of time so that you don’t fall for scams or pay for inferior hosting. Ask your host about scheduled maintenance times. Look for companies that do maintenance only once a month. If it’s more often than that, it can result in too much down time for your site. Web hosting providers that are free should not be entirely ruled out. There are several free web hosts that don’t put ads on your site and worth your consideration. Remember, free hosting could save you thousands of dollars each year. Look into downtime history for the company you’re thinking of having web host for you, as you want to be sure that this company is as stable as possible. If you’re planning on managing a company from your site, downtime would mean no sales. You will also be unable to get to your account when the host is down. A control panel (cPanel) is of utmost importance if you are choosing a web host. This feature allows you to quickly add a variety of popular digital applications

Q&A: Which job would you choose? $1800 per month office customer service job or $2500 mall kiosk job?

Question by : Which job would you choose? 00 per month office customer service job or 00 mall kiosk job?
you need the money desperately, $ 1800 doesn’t cover all your needs but it’s a respectable company. $ 2500 covers your expenses but it’s degrading because you should chase people up and also the company doesn’t have an office in my town yet.

What industry do I choose for my EOI Application to New Zealand?

Question by : What industry do I choose for my EOI Application to New Zealand?
…I work at a call center (but am not an agent – more of Operations and Management Support) offering technical support, customer service and sales. I am baffled because “Business Process Outsourcing”, which is the normal industry cannot be found in the selection provided online…
Let me clarify that as it may be baffling… I WORK at a call center, but I DON’T WORK AS A CALL CENTER AGENT… I work for the Data Analytics Department which specializes in Statistics, Forecasting, Simulations, Data Models, Root-Cause Analysis, Data Process Reviews, etc… I have already found my position/function in Appendix A either of the LTSSL as a Management Consultant or an ICT Business Analyst… The problem is the current industry that I am in right now (my current job) is not listed anywhere (which is BPO)… I am asking for the INDUSTRY… NOT MY OCCUPATION…

Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by Ozmaniac
The reason you can’t find that industry listed is that New Zealand’s occupation lists only include those occupations in which the country needs workers and they don’t need customer support people or anything similar. They need highly skilled workers and that occupation is not highly skilled. You won’t get enough points on an EOI to have any chance of being accepted.

I have found that if you advertise on Google, they can suggest keywords. Yahoo might do the same, but I am not sure. Monitor how many different keywords get how many hits, and eliminate the ones that aren’t working for you.
