The “What is test case?” question is a very common interview question in Software Testing field. Taking QA class in a college you might be just fine giving THE definition provided in that course. But, for the purpose of a successful job interview you might come up with a brief discussion, showing the multitude of views and concepts. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers defines test case as “A set of test inputs, execution conditions, and expected results developed for a particular objective, such as to exercise a particular program path or to verify compliance with a specific requirement.” Wikipedia provides slightly different definition: “Set of conditions or variables under which a tester will determine whether an application or software system meets specifications.” The difference between two is “verifying compliance with requirement” versus “meeting specification”. In the ideal world we have perfectly defined requirements. In the real world we might have literally none. So, in QA we might deal with actual requirements or with self-inflicted, self-imposed requirements. No matter how well the formal requirements or specifications are defined Software tester will develop and execute test cases in the course of testing the software product. Best software course?

Hi, I completed my B.E (ECE) in 2007. I have 1.5 years of experience in supporting software applications ( not pure IT, support job for IT) and 2 years of experience in customer support (BPO). I would like to do any course so that I can get a better job in MNC. From school days, I’m strong in maths and aptitudes, so I think I can perform better in programming. But I don’t know what course will be better for me in programming so that I can get a job without considering the pass out year. I was in thought of joining MainFrame in Maples. But in Maples they said they couldn’t arrange for interviews as the year I passed out was 2007. I need to know if this is the case for all courses. Will they ignore if I study any courses in .Net or SAP due to the reason it was four years after I passed out in engineering.

If that’s not the problem, which course will be better for me to get a well paid job. As I ‘m currently working in a BPO, some suggest me to learn networking courses. Please help which course will suit me. As i’m not very informative about the courses that leads to a good job, your suggestion will be greatly helpful for me.

I was started software business with my 4 friends 2yrs back, we lost all money within 15months. I met fail in my business without confidence in my friends mind becoz this is partnership company know, all friends went back to their home and searching some other jobs. Still i was in confidence to do my business but right now i dont have investment and office setup to run again. I have 15 months experience in this field know so i dont wanna to leave this business. I expect earn my lost money from this same business itself. Am doing consulting business for software and bpo projects with my old contacts, but it wasn’t give me an expected income. I dissapointed to leave this field & would like to come up again. Anybody can suggest me my ambition was right or wrong, give me some ideas to do my consulting business effectively.

Only you can really tell what you want to do in your life, but it seems that entrepreneurship is really calling you

But ask yourself first, why did your first business fail? List down all the why’s and the lessons you’ve learned from the experience. What went wrong?

That way, the next time you decide to start a new business, you can try to avoid every wrong thing that resulted in the downfall of the first business.

I run the content department at an independent media company. We have to keep track of tens of thousands of audio files, as well as image files and metadata files in various formats that are associated with them. We also have to output files and data in even more different formats. We have been manually organising the system using excel and DOS batches, but it is getting to the stage where we need it to be more automated.

Is it possible to ingest XML/XLS data and other files all at once and add them to a database which manages data AND files? Or is this wishful thinking?

I don’t expect many people to understand what the hell I’m talking about… if you do though, please help!

Most RDBMS systems provide a BLOB (binary large object) data type that can be used to store data files such as audio files. You can also store XML files in an associated table/column, but it would probably be best to transform the XML and import the data into the schema rather than simply store the XML so that the audio files are searchable. I’m not aware of any off-the-shelf applications to do specifically what you’re looking for, so you might need to write an application to perform the imports/exports to your database.
