Looking at what is happening in USA economy, will that affect the software industry and IT jobs in Australia.

Well it depends on the nature of the job, IT is a big area.
Network management and support is unlikely to effected beyond the downturn in the jobs market.
Software development will be different. Most software developed in australia is for specific businesses.
With the economic downturn, companies will be looking at their budget closely. It is fairly easy to cancel an upgrade to their software for 3 to 6 months while things are uncertain.
So it is likely that software developers will have trouble finding new projects.

What will be the common jobs readily available in Australia so that I can prepare here.

We dont have call centres at all in Australia – they are all offshore in India and other places. So you will need to be prepared for actual on site help (fixing problems etc) as call centre supervisor positions are not a job you will find anywhere in Australia

Yes. Several universites offer programs that don’t require a GMAT score.
