I’m a first year accounting student and would like to teach myself how to use accounting software. My question is which software is better, Peachtree or Quickbooks, or should I learn both? Also how hard or easy will it be for me to teach myself these software programs? Thanks.

Hi, I’m not quite familiar with accountings. I am trying to acquire an acc software for my medium size company. What criteria should I look for? and any good recommendations and reviews to share?

Hi there,
Actually you have a lot of criteria to think about.
According to me, you have to decide :
- if you want a local or an online solution. Do you want to be able to access your solution only on your office computers or from anywhere ?
- if you want an open-source or a proprietary solution,
- if you want to pay a price per user or a price for the global solution? How many users do you have?
- which accounting modules are absolutely necessary to you,
- if you only need an accounting solution or if you would like an ERP which covers all your business needs (in order to link each entity of your organization as well as clients linked to invoices linked to emails exchanges with CRM, etc); …
Many questions has to be asked before finding the right solution. The software I usually recommend is TioLive. It integrates many modules to manage the business, it is online and for free.

I am the owner of a small business and I am looking to outsource my companies bookkeeping, accounting, and data entry. I am wondering if anyone has experience on this matter and can provided some insight on what accounting software is best to use when outsourcing, what website is best to hire from, and any other insights you can think of?

I am not sure what you mean here. If you are outsourcing your accounting work, the person who is preparing your financials will use the software of their choice. The most common software used by small business’ is Quick Books. If you are not familiar with running a general ledger or setting one up it will be a challenge for you. There are quickbooks for dummies books that will help you.

We’re into food manufacturing, and we have a wide range of products. I can make an excel for our company’s financials, but i’d rather have a program that can do everything on its own, including reports and summaries, as doing everything via excel is time consuming.

Excel is not the answer and yes it would tremendously time consuming for you to do this
plus how many formula’s could you really depend on by going in and out of the spreadsheet ?
The best place to find this type information would be a trade association unique to
food manufacturing industry – most often they can and will recommend software that
will do the accounting properly – sometimes they even have software you can pruchase.
Again, for what you need excel will not work

Nowadays most of the companies have computerized their accounting activities. So, is there a chance that the accounting jobs and book keeping jobs be outsourced to India since labour being very cheap and a huge number of people are graduated every year in india. Unlike call centre jobs, you dont need to “speak” in english for an accountant job
