Question by : Should I quit my call center job?
I’m a college student. I’ve been with my job for over a year and the only reason I’ve stayed with it is because the pay is very good. The job is easy (I do surveys) but often leaves me in an irritable mood. I have to deal with rude and uneducated people on the phone sometimes. I also have to meet production quotas which is stressful. Should I go ahead and quit or try to find another job first, or stick it out with this job? Thank you.

A job like yours is draining. However, try to find another job first because not having any money is draining, also. Plus, you know the saying, “It’s easier to find a job when you already have a job.”

I know how you feel because I have done the same job before but full time. You cannot blame the people too much because they are the ones who gets bothered by the companies but if it stresses you too much quit, the most important is school. However you should look for something else first. I was very happy to quit my telemarketer job when I got myself another one. No job is perfect but I am sure you can fine something that is more relax. Maybe if you quit you could leave in “good terms” so you can come back if you don’t like your new job. Give them a good notice and a reason like you don’t have enough time for studying.

I think the reason why older people stay at their jobs for a long time is because after job hopping in their younger years they find out that you have the same problems at every job. I will tell you, any job where you’re doing customer service, you’re going to have the problems you’re describing. I would really only (maybe) suggest quitting a job if the problem was the people you work WITH co-workers, boss, etc.
If it pays good. I say stick with it. I used to work in an outbound call center also but the pay was pretty good. I quit when they started cutting our hours because I found another job that was full time. If you quit because you don’t like the customers then you better make sure the next job is one where you don’t have to deal with customers cause other wise you’re going to have the same problems.
