Question by Arlene K: Call Center Job Philippines?
I know someone from the US who has to come to the Philippines for a family issues and will be here for about a year and a half or possibly two years. He is Filipino but was born in the US and speaks perfect English. He is also a college graduate with a lot of years working experience.
Would he be able to find a call center job in the Philippines (Manila)? Or possibly as a ACE (Accent and Conversational English) coach? What requirements would be needed to be a ACE (Accent and Conversational English) coach and is it better pay than a regular call center “agent”?

We have a lot of those nowadays, particularly those that have been living or working in US for a long time and came back home. The pay is good, considered to be a coach, rather than an agent. Such incentives though such as commissions may not be accessed, but still, it’s a good pay. Requirements -same as with others, CV, letter, well it depends what a company needs. His perfect English may or may not be beneficial to a certain company, it depends on how well he teaches.

DEPENDS. If he has previous experience particularly in a CC or call center then it is an asset for him to be considered as a cc agent in Manila. ACE or Accent and conversational English coach is rather to much to ask even if he is born in the US. Just because a person is born in the US his or her accent is PERFECT already? What you should know that not everyone is the same or if you see one who has perfect English accent and live in the US you also predict that a Filipino who also live in the US will turn out to be like this one too. Not everyone have the same IQ or personal appearance disregarding the place he or she came from.
THERE ARE ALSO Filipinos in the Philippines who speak perfect English if this is the only gauge or measurement you have. Some came from exclusive schools in the Philippines not necessarily in the US. Just because he has this qualification he is already fit to be in a CC or call center? You can advice this person to try some different jobs while in the Philippines, with his qualification he can be a DJ or announcer in the Philippines. Why confine himself only in a CC or call center outlet?

Screw what deliverance said. DJ’s and public announcers get paid squat in comparison.
He should apply as a comm trainer/ACE not coach, since comm coaches don’t get paid much more than regular agents. They’re offline support and don’t tend to new recruits where the better pay’s found.
Tell him to get a jobstreet account and browse there. The companies advertise looking for agents, but they do have comm trainer openings (reserved mostly as internal job postings). Someone that has more experience with american casual conversation tends to be preferred over filipinos that developed mechanical conversation from the Philippines. Find out the companies hiring and visit them personally/send resumes.

That doesn’t guarantee him a call center job. His credentials would make him a good candidate, though. There are other criteria call centers look for in applicants. He needs to pass maybe at least six levels of interviews and tests. His facility in English will easily get him past first base, that’s a given. But can he ably manage customer inquiries after another, or handle graveyard shifts? Can he multi-task? As for ACE, it’s possible but I’d bet my lunch that call centers would prefer someone with linguistic capabilites and experience.
